I live within the area and so whenever I happen to be in Arbor Lakes, I would usually stop by Ulta. Typically my visits are okay, no issues for the most part. But I went there this one distinct time with a friend of mine, Im looking for specific items to purchase and wouldnt need any assistance for that exact visit. But I remember specifically this one older female, short almost grey pixie like haircut with glasses - who happened to be a worker there, she comes by and asks us if we need any help. I tell her politely, "No thank you, Ive already found what Im looking for, I just want a cleanser from Mario Badescu." She proceeds to nod her head knowingly and brings us over to this skincare line that Ive never heard of before, hands me this cleanser that has strong perfume in it. She goes on about how these products from this line is being used by "professionals" and over generalizes her knowledge about the brand in order to sell it to me. I have extremely sensitive skin and I know for a fact that my face will react horribly to unfamiliar products that Ive never used before. She starts picking up these kits and just hands them to me, one after the other and Im just standing there looking at my friend really confused. My arms are full of the products that shes pushed onto me by that point. Since I have really bad reactions to some products I use, I typically research in depth about the list of ingredients that I know I should avoid. But I felt as if since I was a young adult, whos in her 20s that I was treated in such a way that I wouldnt know a lick of knowledge for skincare and cosmetics. And so after she leaves me with all of these skincare products that I dont need in my hands, I put them away. I go grab what I need from Mario Badescu and I head on over to the Bare Minerals section for foundation. Shes there again, sees us and asks if we need any more help, I tell her no but obviously she wont listen again this time. So she brings us over to PUR Minerals and shows us their compact foundation and then proceeds to try and shade match me without asking for permission. I see the two selections that she has chosen for me and I tell her that the one shade is obviously too orange and dark for my light tan complexion. She just brushes off what I say, thinking that itll be a perfect match and proceeds to swipe that orange streak across my cheek. By this time, Im pretty frustrated and I just want her to leave us alone. She then tries to place the flat top mineral brush into my hands and I just tell her no. I dont want to spend my money on some mediocre brush, with animal bristles sourced from an unknown country and a cheap plastic handle for that matter. I understand that I may seem like a naive teenager thats just walking into Ulta because, "OMG, makeup" but hope that the workers from this Ulta location get to see this comment because this pusher attitude towards customers is what really turns us off from buying anymore products. I understand that this is a retail and theres guidelines that need to be met but theres a fine line from actually helping out somebody versus annoying them. Or judging them based off of what they appear like on the outside. Another side note that I wanted to add was that I saw that same worker again, leading another customer who was a middle aged woman to the same skincare brand from beforehand. So Im guessing is that they need advertise it more?

Ive been going to this ULTA location since 2013 and I come a few times a month on average. I usually have an idea of what Im looking for or I come to browse so I dont ask for much assistance or beauty advice. I think the staff is friendly and helpful though- they generally have an idea of what is and what is not in stock and current ongoing promotions and deals. Cashiers are also very friendly and adequate at their job. If you prefer a casual setting where you can do your thing and occasionally be asked if you need help, this place does it. Sometimes coupons for free gifts/items from emails I get confuse cashiers but I think its understandable as those promotions are sporadic and limited to platinum members more often than not. The only gripe I have about this location is that the free gifts/items/some promotions seem to have pretty limited stock. For example Ill get an email for a free item: If I try to use the coupon too early (next day/two days after), often the promotion item has not been shipped to the store yet. If I use it too late (about a week later) then its often already out of stock. An employee told me that the store receives shipments/restocks on Monday but recently (February 2017) I learned that this date has moved to Fridays. But I think if the free gifts/promotion items are important to you, your best bet is to purchase online. I also read a review that complained about the staffs appearance/lack of wearing makeup- I was surprised by that because most of the staff sport full-faces from my visits. If you can, possibly order onlineor go to a different location, even a different store if you know it carries what you are looking for. The customer service at the Maple Grove location as beyond terrible, every time I go there, even after a month or more between visits. Today, I was asking about a specific hair care product line and the woman started helping another customer in the middle of helping me, just blatantly turned from my question and asked her if she needed anything. Then she followed me down the aisle I went to and then tried to help me. I asked her about a specific brand and she smelled what I asked her about and then directed me over to the Redken product line (not what I was asking for). After she left me, I heard her telling another customer that they were a Redken salon.guess explains her actions. After that, I walked into the IT cosmetics aisle and the woman, who I am assuming was an IT cosmetics rep because she was carrying brushes in her apron, saw me come toward her and turned her back to me and walked away. When I walked into the other aisle to talk to her, she looked at me and then walk away AGAIN back to where she was the first time. At that point, I brought my bag with the products I was going to purchase up to the counter and walked out of the store.

Good selection - poor customer service. Ive lived in the area for almost over a decade and frequent arbor lakes since its convenient. However, I try to avoid making purchases here. Depending on the type of customer you may have a different experience. Im fairly familiar with where to find things and usually know what I want/what Im looking for or occasionally I browse if Im waiting to meet up with someone. If you are similar, getting asked if you need help 3 times within a 15 minute frame can be overwhelming. Arbor lakes primarily has a younger demographic - a lot of teenagers (sometimes their parents) or young adults. Even with younger-looking customers, some employees will either disregard them and offer no help, or be suspicious of them and shadow them; the former is probably sales based. Some are sales representatives for particular brands; they can be biased and dont always take your input into consideration when they show you items. Also some employees can be very short with/rude to minorities and younger customers particularly when there are misunderstandings or descrepancies in price.
