My family and many of our neighbors used to go to Sparks growing up in Saint Charles and it was always well thought of. The owner, Ron, was known to good work and had a clean shop. I moved away and recently moved back. They are at a new location now. Still do good work but the prices are unbelievably high compared to the mechanic I used prior to moving back to Saint Charles and that mechanic also did very good work. Now, having spoken to my family and old neighbors about Sparks, none of them go there anymore due to the high prices. My biggest complaint is their dishonestly. I had a sensor that was bad. It sounded like an easy repair. I bought the OEM part at Autozone for about $50.00 but as it turns out replacing it was trickier than I knew so I asked them to install it. They refused to use the part saying it was not OEM (I was fairly sure they were wrong because I checked the part numbers and manufacture which was identical to the OEM) but I conceded because I needed it fixed. They charged me over $250 for the exact same part. Looked identical, was made by the same manufacturer and had the same part number as the one I had bought for $50. If they would have been honest about just wanting to charge more, at least it would be honest, but they lied so Ill never go there again. I also asked them to replace the mast on my power antenna. My girlfriend had broken it going through a car wash. The moter/assembly worked fine. It just needed the mast replace, many places I since found could do this for about $30 with the part (which I had and it a $20 part). They busted the assembly trying to get it out and then quoted about $450 to replace my power antenna and assembly!! The OEM assembly can be purchased for $79 (which I now need thanks to them) and takes most mechanics <30 minutes to install!! Ill take care of that myself at this point. I wish I would have talked to my old neighbors before going back to Sparks. I would not recommend it to anyone who does not have money to burn since there are just as good mechanics out there that are actually honest and reasonable with prices. I should add, I still think Ron is a good guy, but Larry, a mechanic there who I dealt with for both of these problems is dishonest and did a poor job.

I recently went to this location for a state inspection. My car is about 20 years old -so i expect there are going to be things that need repair from time to time. When the mechanic (Larry) came out of the back he let me know there was 5 reasons that it did not pass. Only two of them were legitimate. He told me that the break hoses were frayed and the cords were showing. (This was a lie.) I was very concerned. I immediately took my car to a friends and lifted up on both sides to look at the hoses. I also had two other people look at them. There was nothing wrong with them-at all. He had also said my hi-beams didnt work and when i told him they did he said well... they didnt work for me. This is bad PR and borders theft. While we were looking at the break lines, my friend tells me of how this very same mechanic failed his car, saying the ball joints were bad. This cost him several hundred dollars in parts only to find out that he did not need them. In fact another mechanic at sparks re-inspected this car and informed my friend that he didnt know what the mechanic was thinking because his ball joints were fine. I do not doubt that good work is performed at sparks. I have however decide not to return or refer business to them.

This automotive repair shop is perfect if you want to be taken advantage of financially and with your vehicle! They claimed the brake pads for my car (09 Nissan) needed "special" clips that cost extra. Walking into an auto repair shop later that day I asked to see brake pads for my car-- funny. They came with clips! They told me the job would be 3-4 hours to replace brakes in both front and rear and then clean my cabin air filters. When I called 30min into the job asking for them to stop the person working on my car said "were already halfway done!" When questioned about the 3-4 hour timeframe they said they needed a part from another store (which is about 30min away) so Im sure part of my $500 in labor fees had something to do with waiting an hour for the missing part. I can admit I am lacking in understanding about what is a fair price for car services, but after this debacle I will be sure to NEVER go here again, and make sure I get a second opinion because for a small town shop in Saint Charles I dont see how they can charge dealer prices for labor when its sub par. The bottom line, if shopping around for a place with integrity who would be willing to pay the same prices as their customers this is NOT the place.

If you own a car or especially a diesel truck this is the only place to go. I have been doing business with them for a little over a year now, cheapest oil change on a diesel truck you will find. Larry went above and beyond to find me some tires that I needed to pull my camper and had them there for me the next day. I will not take my truck to anyone else in the area. I dont know who these people on here are talking about with them being over priced? I had 2 previous mechanics that were alot more expensive and did horrible work compared to these guys. They go above and beyond for all their customers

A little over a year ago, we had work done on the front brakes. They were resurfaced and new pads were put on. 17k miles later, they need to be resurfaced again. They also recommended all rotors be resurfaced, new pads put on the back, and the brake fluid flushed. I called 5 other shops in the area to do the same work and they were $100 to $250 less than Sparks! I understand that its out of the 12k mile warranty, but it was disappointing to find that they were going to charge such high prices. Be sure to get second opinions and other quotes.

I have been going to Sparks for years. They are the best in the business. If i have a problem, they get me in the same day. I would not trust ANY of my vehicles with anyone else. I refer them to all my friends and family and would recommend ANYONE give them a try. They do EXCELLENT work. The people are very friendly and the lobby is something you dont expect from an auto shop, very clean, comfortable, and inviting. They usually have snacks out for customers at not costs and have coffee as well. Its a great place to do business with.

I was recently traveling through St. Charles and had a break down. My own fault as my home shop had previously warned me of the problem, but me being me thought I could get away without replacing the belt.. Of course it broke! Now stranded and knowing no one I took the tow drivers advice and went to Sparks Tire and Auto. The shop was clean, The staff courteous, and the repairs were completed quickly and the price reasonable. Thanks guys for all you did to get me moving so fast. I hope everyone knows what a great bunch you are!
