United Automotive out of the West Fargo location managed to lose my business forever, which sucks because theyre right across the street. I brought my car in for an engine grinding noise, they told me it was a bracket in my brake rotors. Surprise! I got in my car and it did the same thing ( I brought my car there for brake work 2 months prior, but thats another story) It turns out that my engine oil was low, and my pistons were literally grinding against my engine block. Im a male in my 20s and usually do my own vehicle work, so long as a service engine light comes on that I can read. But Ill admit, I am a complete idiot for not catching low oil (In my defense the light didnt illuminate). However, the worst is that a team of ASE certified mechanics didnt catch the problem.(This is where the light finally came on and I noticed) Before my engine blew I poured in a couple quarts of oil in the block, and problem fixed. Of course I did this after paying them to fix my "loose rotor bracket". I also had my engine valve cover replaced 4 months ago, they charged me around $250 compared to amazons $50 for the part, but I didnt have the tools to fix it myself.(Giving them the benefit of the doubt that this isnt where my loss of engine oil came in.) In their defense the service is friendly and quick, but results are not even 1 star worthy. I also complained to the BBB, but United Automotive is not even accredited so it wont carry any weight. I hope this helps anyone trying to find a mechanic that is not out to just make a buck, but treats their customers like family. If I happen to find one in the area, I will be sure to edit this post and include them.(Or if you know one, write a positive review for them so others like myself can make an informed decision) I also want to point out that I am not trying to defame a local business, these experiences are my own, but now shared on the internet for the eternity of time, hopefully for the benefit of others; and so I can vent. If the shop owner feels I am wrong, he has my phone and email from the BBB complaint made 20 minutes ago.

Never take your car here. Scenario 1: My transmission had a small leak and i brought it there to get it fixed. Next day it starts leaking again. The following day the entire transmission went out. They claimed no responsibility for it going out so i had to pay 4000$ for a new one when they clearly repaired it wrong the first time. Scenario 2: The actuator on my brothers truck went out making it so the door was stuck in the lock position. They quotes him $800 saying they would have to cut the entire panel off. For a car as common as the 2001 silverado, they should have known that although with the door stuck shut, you can take enough parts of the door panel off to manually pull the actuator rod the rest of the way to unlock the door. Thereby opening it and taking the panel off correctly. My brother gave me a $40 tip for doing this as it took be about 30 min......

Such a joke. I had told them whats wrong and supplied parts. They said my parts wouldnt work. So I said go ahead and find the right parts. They fixed it and charged out the ass for the repair. So whatever. And ten miles later, the power steering stopped working. Took it back a week later because I have a busy schedule and couldnt get it in to them sooner. They tried blaming me for the issue and gave me no choice but waiting another full week without a car. Dont try to even get in touch with the owner as he is nonexistent apparently. Never use them.

Had my car towed there because it wouldnt start. They call me and say nothing is wrong with it. I come back to pick it up and the mechanic spends 30 minutes trying to get it started. He finally gets it started and sends me on my way. If it takes a mechanic 30 minutes to get it started I dont think I will be getting it started. Drove it to another shop straight from there. Once that shop finally got it in they found a lot if stuff wrong with it. Ran great after I dropped $1000 to get it all fixed. Literally dont think they even looked at my car.

Ive had them do quite a bit of work on my cars over the years. Its always been great work at a good price. They are also excellent at explaining problems and answering questions.
