After taking my truck in for a free inspection, i was informed my transmission was broken and it would cost me 2900.00 to have it re-paired by cottman transmission. So i looked up a rebuild kit for my transmission under $200 bucks. plus the upgraded parts still came in under $400. I decided i could rebuild it myself, Which i do have access to any and i mean any tools or equipment i might need and or any knowledge. its not rocket science. so i returned to cottman to retrieve my truck. i asked to speak with the gentlemen that work on my truck, to simply find out if a rebuild kit would cover whats broken in my transmission. A employee by the name of Alex came out to discuss this with me. i spoke of my plans to rebuild and asked if a rebuild kit would cover all the parts i may need. I was never given an answer. he just told me there lots of small parts and i couldnt handle the rebuild. he then suggested that he could do it as a side job. so i said okay how much will you charge. the kid turns around and goes back in the shop then comes back with a new quote. hell only charge me 1500.00 plus 500.00 for parts that have to come from cottman, he has to use there shop and do it while hes on the clock... HMMMM. sounds like its the farthest thing from a side job. i said that 2000.00 was a bit out of my range. Alex then suggested i wait for my tax return and use that to fix my truck. I run my own company i dont get a return, i owe every dam year.. so the shop quoted me 2900.00, then they change there price to 2000.00 But the kid is doing it on the side. BS BS BS "Do you ever feel like having a shop steal money from you? If you do, go to cottman." theres a new slogan for them. LOL Horrible experience i will never go back there again and i will let anybody know not to go there and what happened to me. overall rating i put at a NEGATIVE 5. Not only is the manager and technicians experts when it comes to transmissions but they excel in all car issues. I bought my Chevy from a local Chevy Dealership within two weeks of having possession of the car the RPMs would go up but the car would barely move. The dealership I bought the car from wanted to charge me $100 to inspect my car. So I called Cottmans because I saw their sign advertising free inspections. When I called to explain the issue with my car they assured me I would not be charged anything to find out what was wrong with it. As a single woman with no knowledge of car problems I was still a little reluctant to bring my car in, but I took my chances and took it to Cottmans. Not only was the inspection free they were also able to determine there was nothing wrong with my transmission. They explained to me since I was purchasing lower quality fuel, it was plugging the filter in my gas tank attached to my fuel pump. They indicated they needed to remove the gas tank to resolve the issue and replace what they called a sock ($16) inside the tank and also cleaned out the gas tank. They put new fuel in my car, my car is now running better than when I purchased it. PRICELESS!!!! THANK YOU COTTMAN CREW!

We are transplants from Michigan and were referred to Cottman Transmission for auto work. We had 2 cars that needed a long list of repairs and we had a limited amount of money. Leo, looked over our cars, helped advise us on what should be done first, and what could wait. They repaired our cars, got them road ready, in a quick and timely manner and worked within our limited budget. We NEVER felt pressured to get everything fixed right now. Jim and Leo, have given us a lifetime of advice, service and help on our cars in only a few months. Also, we have a Daewoo, and the parts are hard to come by or mechanics refuse to work on the car. Cottman was the only place that wasnt nervous about taking on our car. Other places, told us we were out of luck, and you shouldnt have bought the car. But not Cottmans. When we couldnt find a windshield,(and they dont do windshields) they referred us to someone who did, and the next day it was repaired. When my husband, was out of town and I had no way to pick up my car, the owner of Cottmans drove my car to my house!!!!! Cottman Transmission made me feel like I was family! That they cared about my car, and my family as if I was one of their own.

I brought my vehicle in because it was having problems shifting into gear. They replaced the slave cylinder which required taking out the transmission. When everything was put back into the car they discovered that there was a problem with sychrogears in the transmission. They were able to take apart the transmission and replace the gears as well as a bearing that needed replacing and a shifting fork. They did the work as soon as they parts had arrived at their location. Leo also did not charge me for labor for taking the transmission out the second time which saved me 500$. The car shifts like it was new and the repair came with a 12,000mile/1 year warranty on the repair. I am confident that their work will last and if it doesnt they will have it repaired. This repair was not cheap, however I feel it would have cost more at a different location. Getting the specific synchrogears that the transmission needed instead of the entire kit to replace them all and the bearing would have cost more than twice that of the repair. Leo found only the parts and not the kit saving lots of money for me. I am very happy with the service their repairs.

I chose Cottman to do an oil change and transmission diagnostic on my 1977 Chevy K10 due to their close proximity to my home and reviews. They quoted me approximately $40 for the oil change and $103 for the transmission diagnostic for a grand total of just about $143. My truck was shifting hard and late and I was concerned there was a large issue hence the diagnostic. I did know, however, that the transmission fluid had recently been flushed. Cottman did not try to gouge me and instead found that there was only a hole in a vacuum hose. They called me and said my issue had been resolved and my total bill was $86.. well under what I had been quoted and expected. They didnt try to talk me into any unneeded services. They have won over my business with their knowledge and honesty. Thank you Cottman!!

(Outstanding business practices!!) My first encounter with Cottman was soley based on proximity, as they are less than half a mile from my home. My tranny had dumped all of its fluid in my garage unexpectedly overnight. Not knowing anything about transmissions, I was prepared for the worst. The knowledgeable Technician put me at ease on the phone and coached me on getting my car to them safely. The car was ready when they said it would be and astonishingly, my bill was less than I could imagine. (Possibly an automotive first.) For less than $200 they fixed the problem and replaced my fluid. My Father has since used them for more major repairs and we have found the cost to be less than the dealership, and the workmanship to be excellent. I will reccomend these guys to anyone.
