Note: This is the ONLY place I know of where you should be bringing your car, van, or truck if its more than a few years old. Ill explain why at the end of the review, but I know that some people dont read all the way to the end. This a great place, and the service stayed consistent even after Lorne retired. They make a point of not charging you for things that you dont need done. I brought in my van after a starting problem, and they took apart the steering wheel and then said that while there were certainly things that could have been done pre-emptively, there just wasnt any point in doing all the work and charging all that money right then. I was charged a very small amount for labor, and that was it. Much appreciated! The real benefit is this: There are a lot of places where its fine to bring your vehicle to be fixed if its one to five years old. Actually, just about any repair shop is perfectly okay if you have a newer used car. But a lot of people cannot afford a new or near-new car. if youre trying to keep an old junker going, FEW places are really all that great. Checkpoint Motors is one of the few. My van goes there every time it needs service even though I now live in Tigard, and its a pain to get back and forth. Its more than worth the extra trouble and time.

What a great place! Our old Toyota was leaking oil badly from various places on the engine after two other places had worked on it. Checkpoint found that the distributor cap was damaged and leaking and the valve cover gasket was leaking badly. They replaced both. They found that the previous place had smeared silicone all over the valve cover gasket to try and fix the leak. Checkpoint then checked and adjusted the brakes, changed the oil and filter, lubed the chassis, checked fluids, checked air and breather filters and tire pressures. They also repaired damage done by the previous mechanics to the plug and coil wire locks. Finally, they cleaned up all the dirty oil on the engine. They left the engine pristine! Its been a month now, and its still that way and the car is running great. Ive owned a lot of cars and been to a lot of mechanics. This is the best experience Ive ever had. There was lots of communication and a feeling of honesty and integrity. I highly recommend Checkpoint.

James and his staff at Checkpoint Motors have put my mind at ease and changed me for the better!! I was a walk-in customer and they got my vehicle in immediately and were able to fix my items that needed attention and explain in detail what they were doing so I was informed every step of the way. I cant rave enough about this shop! From the talented Technicians and Owner, to the fun and Friendly Staff. While my newer Audi TT was being worked on there, I saw a Ford Diesel Truck, a vintage Pontiac LeMans, a Corvette, and a Smart Car. These Guys and Gals can fix anything with all of the high tech tools that they have!!!!! I would send my elderly Mother, by herself, to this shop. .......and feel very comfortable that she would be treated with the same professionalism as I had been.
