After 30+ years of computer use, I had my first coffee spill on the keyboard of my MacBook Air last Sunday morning. I reached to wipe off the coffee as the screen went blank and the power shutdown. A quick run to the Apple Store where they told me that they could send the machine in for a refurb for $755, but they couldnt do anything about the data (Macbook Airs have SSD for storage). They referred me to a national data retrieval company, but I didnt want to send my machine away for several days, knowing that every minute that went by, coffee was corroding my machine, making the chances of retrieving my work data off the SSD lower and lower. I frantically searched all the Portland-based data retrieval specialists, and called or emailed a half dozen. Flux was the only one open on a Sunday, and Jason returned my voicemail within 30 mins. 30 mins later I was handing him the coffee (latte actually, making it worse due to the milk) soaked machine. He assured me that he could get the data, likely 100% of it. Later that evening (4 hours later?) Jason gave me a call with an update. He said he could talk to the SSD so the chances of recovering all the data we very, very high. He also proactively told me that he could spend a lot of time cleaning off every small part in the Macbook in an effort to see if we could reboot the machine, but the chances of it working were going to be very small, and the cost to clean all the parts would make it not much less - if at all - as expensive as getting the machine refurbished by Apple. We agreed to meet the next day to put the data on a new machine I would pick up at the Apple store. Dropped my new Macbook Air - with i7 chipset that screams - off with Flux at noon on Monday, and by 2pm I was back picking the machine up, data fully restored on the (new) machine, allowing me to continue my work as if I left off without missing a beat. In summary, within a 24 hour window Flux took my latte soaked Macbook Air, retrieved the data off the SSD, and transferred that same data onto a new Macbook Air that I brought to them. All this for a very, very reasonable price. I would highly recommend Flux for any type of computer repair or troubleshooting.

There is a reason Jason has a three year track record of 5 star reviews. The 1 star with no review, I suspect was just a phone fumble because I can not think of a reason why anyone would be unhappy with his service and not be able to detail why. Being a student I tend to work on the crisis deadline, also, I am terrible about backing up data. My portfolio for entry into professional degree program was due in two days with printing time taken into account I was already under the wire. Then I spilled a glass of water on my computer. Oh, it was also Labour day so no one else was even picking up the phone. I was 100% that my project wasnt going to happen. I dropped it off with Jason in the afternoon and the next morning I awoke to an email a text and a missed call. Jason already had my computer ready to go before 8 am. Picking it up from him was easy in an area well accessible to those who are car free. Pricing was incredibly reasonable. I called geek squad a few days later to get a price quote for my curiosity and so I could write a better review. Geek squad customer service was nowhere near on par. After I told Jason what happened, he took charge and lead me through emergency triage on my computer. he really put me at ease when my world was ending and I was ready to curl up in a little ball of self defeat. Truly I was at my worst. He gave me a price quote and detailed what parts replacement parts would cost if needed. Geek Squad fumbled around and sounded like the guy was poorly googling it as we spoke. It was painful talking the the guy on the phone, he had all the phone presence of wet cardboard. They couldnt give a quote without seeing it, or a ballpark estimate or hourly rate. or any useful information. 10 minutes passed before he even told me to turn my theoretical wet laptop off. Oh to top it off, He has an amazing well designed business card.

Jason with Flux Computer Repair recently helped me after my PC and iphone were hacked, and all of my passwords were stolen including banking information resulting in a significant form of identity theft. Initially, before calling Flux, I attempted to handle the problem myself. After about 40 hours of fighting off a very aggressive hacker, I realized I was in over my head. I called Jason, who developed a plan to systematically approach the security breach and re-secure my desktop and iPhone. The next few days that followed, were a whirlwind of chaos as the hacker continued to re-hack back into my bank accounts, personal email and a myriad of other accounts. Despite my panicked phone calls, and losing my voice to laryngitis in the midst of all of this, Jason kept a calm and composed demeanor taking action steps to regain control of my computer, my phone and my identity. He went above and beyond anything I would have expected from a computer repair company including calling me early one morning to notify me of an email that an online banking profile had been activated without my knowledge. Thanks to his shrewd awareness while fixing my email account, I was able to call my bank and stop an outgoing ACH transfer the hacker had put in place. I am truly grateful for all of Jasons help and expertise. His professionalism and knowledge of all things computer related is outstanding and he will not disappoint. I am happy to have finally found my go-to IT guy and will definitely use Flux Computers in the future.

Its hard to pick out one place where Jason and his company, Flux, excel--mostly because this man excels in every category. Hes prompt, timely, gives excellent service, offers options and advice, his rates are totally reasonable, and the turnaround time is incredibly fast. I liken computer repair to auto repair--I know nothing about either and I strive to find the most honest, fair professionals I can. And while I know nothing about either, I do have a pretty good sense of when someones trying to pull a fast one on me. When I came to Jason with a corrupt hard drive on my laptop, I seriously thought about simply giving up and buying a new one. Unfortunately, I do not have endless amounts of money at my disposal, so Jason and I talked about various options. He suggested a little work and a new hard drive as a way to save some money. I took his advice. Ive had my laptop back for over a week now, and it does everything Jason promised and more. It works better than it did when it was brand new. Its fast, efficient, glitch-free--and, as I mentioned above, the rates were completely reasonable. I am thoroughly and completely satisfied and I cannot recommend Flux enough, and I cant heap enough praises on Jason for being so friendly, patient, and straightforward. He picked up my computer in the afternoon and had it back to me the next morning. Like lightning! So fast. I highly recommend Flux for any and all computer and tech help. You wont be disappointed--youll be delighted.
