Sigh. This morning I received an email from U-Store telling me my storage fee hadnt been paid because my auto-pay discover card was declined. Oops! I called to give them my new discover card number and asked if future notices could go out before late fees are incurred, i.e. your bill is due in 4 or 5 days or youll get a late fee. Verne said hed called me yesterday. I told Verne I was grateful for the call, but I missed his call because I was hiking (Im in Canada). I asked Verne if they could send future emails before a late fee is incurred. Verne said everyone is treated the same, and he sounded peeved. I said cant everyone get an email before its late to avoid the fee. Verne said thats why he called, and he sounded distressed that I was having trouble grasping he simplicity of it all. I asked verne if he had a number for corporate. He gave me the number for "Jack." I called Jack and asked if an email could be sent to their customers before accounts incurred late fees. Jack said I should have gotten a call. I said I missed yesterdays call and that I was calling now to ask if emails could be sent before the account is hit with a late fee. Jack said everyone is treated the same. (If you just experienced deja vu, you arent alone.). I said I understood, and asked if emails could go out to their customers before theyre hit with late fees. Now Jack sounded peeved. Jack then said an email goes out on the first when the bill is due and that one goes out after the account is late. Oh. I almost sighed with relief. I asked Jack to please have the first one resent to me because that would clear up my whole issue. Jack said hed have the first email resent and asked for my phone number. I gave him my number and thanked him. Jack said hed call me back soon. I said the email would be sufficient and that I appreciated his time. You dont want a call, Jack asked? He sounded deeply offended. I said I just needed the first email resent because that would clear up the issue because that would mean U-Store was already sending pre-late fee notices. Jack then explained - yes, again - that everyone gets a call and an email. Uh oh. Jack seemed to be backing off the two-email statement. Jack said hed contact the NE location and get back to me. The conversation went downhill as I tried to clarify what Jack was saying. I didnt know any other way to ask that they just resend the first email. I hesitated to answer when I saw Jacks number light up my phone. Jack: So you were hiking when the call came to you yesterday? Me: Yes. Jack: So even if wed sent you an email yesterday you wouldt have received it? Me: Thats correct. Jack: (Jack made his point with silence.) Me: Thanks for the call, Jack. Jack: Youre welcome. Life happens. If youre lucky enough (as I was) to get a unit in one of the buildings that doesnt smell like mold, U-Store is a bit cheaper than the competition. The limited hours are a huge inconvenience, but I assumed that was why U-Store was cheaper. In reality, U-Store isnt actually cheaper, theyre just more creative in how they make up the difference.

Arrogant, rude, offensive bordering on criminal behavior when I walked in with 6 bags from my cab. I had used their facility in Salem and had reserved a room to store my bags while in town. The man behind the counter struck an immediate attitude and became belligerent insulting and outright rude. Refused to let me have the reserved space and when I decided to call a cab to leave and learned my cell battery was dead refused to call a cab . When I asked if I could leave my bags while I tried to find a phone he outright said AND I QUOTE, "Cant promise theyll be here when you come back" I want the central office to Fire this incredibly obnoxious man who outright threatened me, my safety, my property and put me in the position of feeling unsafe by just being there. I will NEVER Ever use USTORE and will go out of my way for years to insure that no one I know will Ever Consider using their business. No One should feel threatened by a counter clerk. I was there at 2:30 in the afternoon on October 4th and do not know the mans name. He refused to tell me his name so If possible I would ask the Company to check their records to determine the identity of their Criminal Employee.

We called this place on two different occasions. No one answered the call so we left messages...we were never called back. We went directly to the office to speak with someone. When we got there, there were two employees, one at her desk and other was standing. We said we were interested in renting a unit; the two just stared at each other and then had to decide which one could take their break immediately because both of them wanted to take a break. The man standing went on break. The woman at the desk did not introduce herself, did not get up to speak with us at the counter. She stared at us for a moment then asked what size we were interested in. We were not sure so we asked to see a list. She held up a list and then said, "This list is for employees only. Its complicated so I doubt you would understand." So I guess Im stupid or slow. She quoted us a price. We said that we were supposed to get a discount because we rent from a company that UStore is owned by and she said that they dont offer discounts. At this point, I felt mistreated and insulted enough that nothing was worth me renting from this place.

Vern, the manager, has to be one of the rudest people Ive dealt with in years. I had to cancel my debit card causing problems with my auto pay right before going out to sea for a week. I emailed as soon as I got back to land. They piled on the fees and locked me out of the unit even though I was able to pay 10 days later when I got a new card issued. Unfortunately, I was unable to tell Vern any of this because he was too busy at his computer mumbling rude comments under his breath. The biggest problem with renting here is the old, outdated building. It has caused many of my things to be ruined including a large book collection. I cant keep the books in my house now cause they stink. So when confronted with complete rudeness from the manager, it leaves a sinking feeling in my stomach. I went with UStore to save money, but with ruined goods and a whopping $30 in fees for being 10-days late, I cost myself way more than if had I gone with A1 or Public Storage.

My reasons for dealing with U-Store arent the norm: my late mother had a storage unit at U-Store East. When she passed away this summer, because no one else was on the account, I could not easily get access to the unit. After some initial confusion dealing with other employees both on the phone and in person, Vern the manager was able to straighten everything out and figure out what documentation I would need to access the unit. Vern was very kind, considerate and helpful, especially considering my circumstances. U-Store East seems like a typical storage facility and I had no problems cleaning out my moms unit once I gained access (reasonable clean, decent lighting, big elevators, carts, extensive security system, etc.) I would say that if you have any questions or concerns, talk to Vern the manager and he will make your experience with U-Store East a good one.
