I go there for inexpensive oil changes and inspections only - would never authorize them to perform repairs: Heres the summary: My 2006 Accord failed PA Safety inspection for a broken stabilizer link and a rear rotor. I declined their services and said I would make the repairs myself. I picked up my car, paid $44 for the emission test/failed safety inspection, and laughed heartily at the repair estimate that was $1,084.52 (to replace stabilizer links on both sides, 2 tires, rear brake pads+rotors, and an air filter) The only thing I actually needed to pass inspection was a single $15 stabilizer link from AutoZone. When I brought the car back to get my PA Inspection Sticker the following week, I was told the car had to be completely re-inspected. While this may be what they said was required, it wasn’t what was done. I watched the mechanics drive my car into the garage, look through the wheels with a flashlight to see the new part, put on the new inspection sticker, then let it sit for 25 minutes before Carl, the shop manager/Service Writer, came back into the waiting area to tell me that they were all done. My car never left the ground, and they had the nerve to hand me a $27 bill for a second "inspection".….SERIOUSLY !!! … and heres the long version if you want details: I dropped off my 2006 Accord in for PA Safety and emission inspection at 8:20am on Dec 24. Around noon I received a call that my car didnt pass inspection, it had a broken rear stabilizer link, the other side link was loose, a rotor that failed and the rear pads should be replaced as well. When I asked how the rotor failed since I just put it on the year before, Mike, the Service Writer, said it had rust pits and it would most likely be under the thickness spec if they cut them. I told him that I would pick up my car and perform the necessary repairs for it to pass inspection. The recommended repair estimate was ridiculous and the parts prices were insane: Midas’ Parts price for each rear sway bar link was $69.99. The OEM part from a Honda dealership (52320-SDA-A01) is only $20.13. 250% Markup!! Midas quoted $99.99 per tire for Cordovan Grand Prix Tour RS, I was able to find local shops online prices for $56 each - 80% Markup!! Midas Parts price was $189.98 for rear rotors and ‘Lifetime’ ceramic pads. AutoZone price is $76 (or $106 w/3 yr rotors) - 150% markup Midas Air Filter $24.99, equivalent at AutoZone $15.99 - 56% markup Total Midas parts price = $554.93 compared to consumer retail price of $224.12, so they charge double the retail price even though they get the parts at wholesale cost which is at least 30% below retail. That’s $400 profit on parts that may have cost $150!!! When I pulled the rear wheels off at home, I noticed that I had a caliper slider pin that was stuck, causing the right rear pad to not make full pressure contact on the rotor. Whoever did the inspection obviously never pulled the caliper to measure the pad thickness, otherwise they would have added this to the repair order. Luckily my AutoZone rear rotors which were still under the 2 yr warranty - so those were free replacements. The passenger stabilizer link that was supposedly loose had absolutely no free play and rotated on the ball joints - exactly as designed. I took the car back to get inspected and overheard Carl call another Midas inspection customer to tell them that they had 2 tires that were just a hair above the limit, the other two were near limit and their rear rotors were pulsating because of warp. They would pass inspection, but he offered to replace the rear pads and rotors so they would be ‘safe’. This was a similar line that I was fed when Mike called the day before, except that they were able to fail me because of the broken stabilizer link.

"Trust the Midas touch" means enjoy this massage while we coerce you into spending money on something you dont need. I recently tried to get my vehicle inspected at this Midas and it failed inspection. The reason? Brakes. I was told that $400+ would get me back on the road legally. I went down to see what was wrong with the brakes since I had had them serviced by another car service station 2 month prior. The "mechanic" pointed at some stuff that was definitely rusted and as a non car person I was unaware that what surface he was pointing to actually had nothing to do with braking at all. I said I was going to take my car back to the other car service station since there was a warranty on the brake service I had done 2 months prior. Low and behold the car passes inspection and they insist the brakes look good as new. 2 weeks later I take my car to another service station for a third opinion and to no surprise I am told again that the brakes look good as new. Long story, even longer with all the details, short Midas sucks.

Excellent service, all the time! I have taken my 2004 Subaru Forester XT to this shop numerous times due to the great care and service they offer. The manager, Carl, is one of the best shop owners Ive met. He will detail any repair work with you so you know exactly what is being done. Not only that, but he and his staff will take time with customers with any questions. Ive called the shop a few times after a repair was done, and they were never short or upset. They are also true to their word. If they say a repair will take a day, or more it will take that amount of time. I was surprised that when the wrong brake pads were ordered, Carl, went back out and retrieved the ones needed so the repair would be done that day. Would visit again, and will do so in the future.

This Midas on Route 8 in Gibsonia, PA is perhaps the most professional and competent auto shop I have ever dealt with. I have lived in the area for two years now and now I get all my non-warranty service work there. They must treat their employees well there as it seems like I have been dealing with the same employees since discovering them. Sitting in their waiting room you have this giant window to watch them do service. You can consistently see them actually checking every item they say they will check! Which I know some places just say they inspect it and probably never do. I can just tell that as a whole, their employees at this location really care to do a thorough and professional job and will not sell you services or products you do not need.

I had a good experience with these guys. Admittedly, they were a bit sloppy about calling me back--I dropped the car off in the morning and had to call them the next day to figure out what was going on. But when they told me it was a transmission problem that I needed to go somewhere else for, they didnt charge me a thing. This was quite in contrast to a second place I had gone to a few days earlier that charged me $100 just to inspect the car, without actually doing anything. This was my first time there, but I definitely intend to go back whenever I need new tires or anything.
