I have taken my car to Pep Boys many times, and occasionally Id find my car the next day unlocked when I come to pick it up. Recently this was brought to a head when my car was targeted and vandalized (no one is going to have interest in a 15 year old car unless it is left unlocked..). When I came to pick my car up the next day, I noticed that money was missing and things were thrown around the car. I went to the manager in a huff about this, at which point I was told "oh we meant to call you this morning. Your car was broken in to and some one stole your battery, which we replaced! You got lucky; usually they break into cars here by smashing windows. Happens about every time it rains!" Well the police were called and I reported that I was missing my GPS, iPod, gift cards, laptop bag, passport, and other items. After talking to the management, I was told that it would be so-many days until corporate could get me a response to my losses. Corporate decided to huff the usual "our work orders state we are not responsible for theft, etc. We will offer to cover $250 of your insurance deductible on the items." At that point I correctly informed them that their work orders mention nothing about raw negligence, and insurance doesnt cover personal items inside of cars unless you have property insurance specifically for those items (not car insurance). I even called my insurance company and they reaffirmed this. Even if they were to offer that amount in cash in reparations it would have been a slap in the face! My identity has been compromised due to their negligence (missing passport and other documents) and I am out over $1000 in property. The bottom line is that I have had to call and beg and plead to be called back for over a month to finally be told "youre out of luck." I was personally promised to be contacted at various points throughout this month, and each and every time except for this very last one I had to call them the day after and say "you did not contact me." After a while, the apologies and excuses became comically predictable. The bottom line is that Pep Boys specifically caused my car to be targeted because of persistent negligence. They strung me along for over a month and failed to keep very simple customer-service promises like contacting me. I had to initiate every call along the way with very few exceptions. When some one tells you "were going to take care of you," you want to believe them. Neither the service nor the final outcome met what would have been my very lowest expectations. P.S.- Today they called and told me that the only person their video cameras saw touching the car was me when I picked it up. OH YES? That exact morning your very workers touched that same car and found out that it wouldnt start because the battery was missing. What an absolutely bizarre and insulting thing to say to me after all of this, and it doesnt take much thought to realize how bogus it is. But thats what I found to be par for the course over this long debacle. Do not take your car to this establishment.

First they said they couldnt inspect my car because a check engine light was on. Something about emissions laws in Pennsylvania (PA is the kingdom of taxes and regulation-they regulate everything here in Draconian fashion). But I dont have emissions stickers in my county! After an awkward conversation, the idiot finally said, oh, sorry. Our mistake. I had an appointment for 9AM and showed up at 8:45. It was past 11 AM before they even pulled my car into the bay. I was there until about 12:30. 3 1/2 hours of my time just for an inspection and wiper fluid hose replacement. From 9AM to 11AM they had 3 bays open! Then, after going over my car, pulling the wheels, etc., they said because my turn signal lever return wasnt functioning, they couldnt pass it. But I told the attendant about that before they even touched the car!!! So why did they inspect it anyways if they knew it was going to fail?!!! My turn signals were working fine-the automatic lever return (after you make your turn) just didnt work. I dont mind that, I have to manually touch my turn signal lever after a turn. So what? Then they gave me a ridiculous $340 estimate to fix the lever. Penndott mentioned nothing about that law on their web site under inspection requirements. Check yourself, its not there. Pep Boys said its in the book of regulations sent by the state. I said, but what about older cars that dont even have that function? They said, those cars are exempt from the rule! These damned bureaucrats with their regulations! They just put these things into law by decree-it is not law, the legislature had nothing to do with that. They didnt vote on this-some state official put that in there. They can put whatever they want into law with out legislative action. Law by decree. Tyranny! Finally, Pep Boys told me my car, because its missing a little bit, needs a tune up. And gave me a big price to do that. I took it to another mechanic, an honest one, and found out they were wrong. It didnt need a tune. It was a coil or something. Anal-retentive crooks who will find the tiniest, most miniscule reason to fail your cars inspection. So they can rip you off. I ended up being charged $78. All they did was fix the windshield wiper hose on the drivers side and fail my inspection. I dont recommend anybody going to this Pep Boys for inspection unless their car is practically brand new. Because theyll find a way to fail it. I took my car to another garage the next day and it passed immediately. My bill was $40. Stick it, Pep Boys.

I am from Dover, DE, and was vacationing with my family for a few days from (07/19/14 to 7/21/14) visiting Hershey Park and the surrounding attractions. On Sunday morning 07/20/14, I was headed to the park with my family, and I noticed a loud noise coming from the front left suspension of my 1999 GMC Jimmy every time I hit a road bump. I took a look underneath, and found that I had lost the lower bolt on my front left shock, with the shock now shifted out of bolt-alignment. As a Pep Boys Rewards member who has my car serviced at Pep Boys in DE frequently, I sought to find a Pep Boys near Hershey, PA, knowing that they would be one of the few places that would be open on a Sunday. I dropped off the family at the park, and then I used the Pep Boys web site to find the nearest location, and immediately called. I spoke to Carrie Kramer, and explained my situation. She informed me that they were “booked solid all day”. But, because of my unusual situation, she wanted to try and help me, and asked to put me on hold so that she could speak to the mechanics on duty, to ask them if they would be able to “squeeze me in” if it was just for a simple shock bolt replacement. She took my exact information, make model, missing bolt etc, and got me permission to bring it in. I was so relieved. I immediately drove it in, and when I got there, I was met with a smile, and empathy for my situation. I was prepared to miss the parks all day waiting for my car, but she had already drawn up my paperwork, and I handed her my key and just relaxed for a while. They took my car in to the work bay within half an hour and had it completed within the hour. Carrie was so pleasant and helpful, and the other employees were also great to talk to while I waited for my car. They all saved the day and weekend for me, as I was able to return to the park within a few hrs of finding the problem, and I was able to drive back to DE with the peace of mind that my car was fixed and safe for the road. It is rare to find such wonderful customer service these days, and one of the reasons that I will continue to rely on and trust Pep Boys in the future.
