We used Zimmerman twice and will never use them again. Heres why: 1) This place is all about the money. We had an issue with our HVAC system not working in February. I called Zimmerman, because I was new to the area and it was the only plumbing, heating, A/C company I knew of, from their TV commercials. The technician came out, spent about 3-4 hours with our unit in the basement (apparently waiting for one of his colleagues to bring a part to the house - not sure why he didnt go get it himself), supposedly fixed something inside of the unit, and charged us over $750. What could we do? We needed heat in February! He then put the fear of God in us that we needed to have their maintenance plan so they can come in twice per year to check it out, or otherwise it will stop working. So tack on another $100+ - by the time all was said and done, we paid over $900. 2) Office workers are RUDE. When the first "maintenance" appointment came around in April, we needed to postpone it because my girlfriend got called in to work that day and I was already at work and couldnt leave. So they came in maybe about a week later. When the technician was finished, he asked my girlfriend if she wanted to schedule the second visit, so she said yes, and he called the office. My girlfriend could hear the woman on the other end of the line as clear as day, and she was very rude. I have a last name that is difficult to pronounce if you arent familiar with it, and when he tried to tell her where he was, she said "Oh the one with the weird last name?" I have thick skin, but dont insult my family, or my heritage. The woman then asked the guy what date we wanted (keep in mind the appointment would be 6 months down the road); he asked my girlfriend and she said "I dont know, 6 months is fine" to which the woman on the other end of the line replied, in a VERY nasty tone, "Well it doesnt work for me if I schedule something and she just goes ahead and cancels," obviously referring to our need to cancel our initial appointment because my girl got called in to work. Just based on how we were treated by the office staff, I would never use Zimmerman again. 3) Possible sabotage? When our maintenance appointment I referred to in #2 came around, the technician spent some time on our outside unit. Now our entire system had been working fine since the $900+ we had spent on it two months before. All of a sudden, just a few days after our maintenance appointment, we noticed that our outside unit stopped working - and it started getting much warmer outside (and in). We called a different company (ARCS - you should check them out instead of these guys), and the tech that came from the new company was so friendly and VERY helpful. He fixed our system up in no time, and when we got the bill for just a fraction of what Zimmerman had charged us, we were shell shocked and told him about our first experience with Zimmerman, told him exactly what the problem was, and he told us that theres no way that repair should have cost anywhere near $750 - he said more like $200. This boiled my blood a bit, but Im happy we found someone honest out of all of this. And our HVAC has been working great ever since. Long story short - dont fall for the silly commercial or the catchy jingle. Theyll just try to rip you off.

Today I had service installing a new dryer vent. I decided to use zimmermans because Ive had such great service in the past 2-years on a new water heater and just this past summer I spent 8 grand on a new Ac/furnace. Both which have given me great service. I cannot say the price was the greatest, but I depend on great service and knew I would get it. Im not sure if it was just my bad luck, or what but I was nervous when my copper line was cut through when installing the vent. The service guy responded professionally and turned the main off and replaced the copper line. It was not on the receipt that he did that initially, I had to ask him to write it in before I paid. Im worried Ill have issues in the future with the water line that was repaired and feel that its my way of having proof if something shall fail. I do realize things happen. He was unable to fit a access panel appropriate for the hole he cut. I am however, unhappy that he just put pieces of the wall he cut out back in its place. It looks awful and I feel like I was cheated that way. Again, he was very nice, but Im sure if it was his house he would not leave it like that. The guys that installed my washing machine and dryer right after he left could not believe he did that. This made me feel worse. Im not sure what I should do at this point. UPDATE: 1-27-16 After reporting to the office the next day and writing the initial review I was responded to immediately. The staff followed through on my concern and worked with my schedule to meet with the owner Earnie. After discussing my concerns, I will say my faith in Zimmermans was restored as they wanted to make things right. It was a mutual understanding that things do happen, but that being said, they were aggressive to get things done right. A professional contractor was out to complete the repair. Once again, I dont mind paying for great service, as long as it is provided. I will in fact over look this incident, and continue to use their service knowing that my concerns were met. Thank you Earnie !

Highway Robbery - $70 just for an estimate. - Final quoted price will be at least triple that of your best educated guess. I bit off more than I could chew attempting to install a new bathtub myself. I inquired with Zimmerman about finishing where I left off, which involved hardly more than setting the tub, updating a bit of piping and replacing the gutted wall around the new tub. Aside from a few valves and pipes (lets guess high at $200) and some green wall (lets guess high again at $200), Id already purchased everything else, including the bathtub + surround at Fagers. What was my final estimate you ask? $3000+ f***ing dollars. This didnt even include finishing the wall around the tub. So lets guess high for parts again and say $500, just to give them the benefit of the doubt. $2500 for labor? I had the entire job quoted at hundreds of dollars less than that before I even thought about buying the tub myself ($450) and seeing how far I could get. I called back and didnt hide my displeasure over the price gouging. Their response? "Well, I mean if you want it done right thats what it costs... also we include a lifetime guarantee on all our work!" They also mentioned something about discounting me a lousy 15% if I booked another job with them within x-amount of time. Wow guys. Deal of a lifetime. Fine. If paying through the nose to buy "insurance" from a company who advertises itself as plumbing experts makes sense to you, then go ahead and buy the most expensive insurance policy youll ever find from a company whos not even licensed to sell it. Ill pass. If youve ever been curious about what it feels like to get raped, I recommend giving Zimmerman a call. Otherwise I strongly encourage you to inquire with everyone else within 50 miles. I saved $2000 by telling Zimmerman to take a hike. You should to.
