I used U-pack in October to move from DC to Dallas and had a great experience. Moving Options: U-Pack has several options to choose from: Truck vs. container: I opted to pack one of their trucks. You pay by the foot (5 ft. minimum which easily fit my studio apartment amount of stuff). With the container, if you need just a little more space you have to pay for another whole container. Whereas with the truck, if you need another foot of space, you just pay for another foot. They fill the remainder with freight. Door to door vs. terminal to terminal (or a variation of the two): They will bring the truck/container to your house or you can bring your stuff and pack/unpack at one of their terminals. I opted for terminal to terminal because it was cheaper but also removed the need to schedule drop-off and pick-up dates in both cities, and it saved me from having to get a special parking permit for DC. That said, I ended up having to load, unload and reload in multiple trips to do terminal to terminal, so it’s worth the extra cost to have it delivered to your door if you have a lot of stuff/furniture. Price: It was a very competitive price at under $900 for 5ft of truck space. I think the quote was $1500 if I wanted door to door. There were no additional fees tacked on later. Timeliness: I packed the truck on a Monday and it arrived that Friday so it’s super fast compared to some of the other companies. You can pay extra for guaranteed delivery. They also have a tracking system on their website. They’ll store it for free for two days on the other end, but then they start charging $50 after that. I think they also have long term storage options if you do the container. Customer Service: I only had good experiences with the staff in both cities. They were courteous and helpful over the phone, in their front office, and in the yard. Lock: You have to buy your own lock, but they give you the specifications. Make sure you buy exactly what they specify because I accidentally got one too large and had to do an emergency Home Depot run to get the right one. Insurance: The insurance they provide is measly (30 cents per pound or something like that), but homeowners or renters insurance will cover moves so just call your insurance provider to confirm or activate a policy. No damage: Nothing was damaged when it arrived, but that’s because I was super meticulous when I packed. There will be lots of shifting in transit, so it’s on you to cushion breakable things in boxes and tie everything down securely. I fit everything in like a puzzle, taped smaller, lighter boxes to heavier ones to prevent toppling, and tied some things down to the wall brackets. I also used old blankets to cover all of my furniture since continuous motion would definitely cause scraping if not padded. Insurance won’t cover things broken due to improper packing. The trucks and containers are not temperature controlled so depending on the timing of your move, be prepared that you might have issues with heat damage to electronics (TVs, laptops, etc.). If you’re also driving separately, take those in the car with you. All in all, I’m really glad I went with U-Pack. Moving is a big hassle, but U-Pack was affordable, timely, and has helpful staff which made for a great and mostly hassle free move.

1. Our TV was carefully packed in a foam cushioned UHaul TV box. The box itself showed no signs of damage. But the 52" TV screen was shattered. 2. Various cross bracing members for the trailer bulkhead were either missing or severely damaged and unusable at the time of loading. 3. Various holes in the trailer roof allowed water to infiltrate the trailer and damage boxes and sentimental personal effects. 4. Upak contracted drivers did not follow Upak protocols that were outlined in my contract paperwork or in the online instructions. A driver just showed up at our residence without being called for pickup, and without notifying us of his scheduled arrival. This driver also broke into our gated community unannounced and without permission. He then proceeded to knock on our door, alarming us, and query us about the state of the trailer. In summary, we had a poor experience. An experience that was far below advertisements and our expectations of the Upak defined protocols. 46 days after we submitted a claim, we were essentially offered a settlement of $168 for a shattered 52" TV, water damage of personal effects and an unscheduled/unlawful entry by their driver. We regret choosing Upak for our shipping needs and recommend avoiding Upak and their contracted drivers.

I used U-pack while moving to another state packed furniture and the usual when moving. when we received our furniture to our surprise we did not check it, who does??? Well, as I got movers to help me move it to my new home, I than noticed that while in transit or however they ship it, my furniture was damaged, cracked, and scratched noticeably. It was not worth moving my furniture I was better off selling it than having it broken while moving. The handles were totally gone, when I got around calling U-pack to inform them of my furniture along with other things that were broken while moving they proceeded to ask me to file a claim, I do not know why they made me file a claim since the outcome would of been the same. They stated since I signed the papers when I collected my things from U-Pack center that they are not responsible once you leave with your belongings. Completely unsatisfied will never use this service nor recommend.

Over the years I have made a number of major moves across country. U-Pack gave me the ability to flex my dates as needed, professional advice about the logistics, and drivers who really knew their stuff. The moving dashboard enabled me to keep track of my move and all the dates, the website tracking kept me appraised of where my trailer was every step of the way, and the direct access to the terminal operators meant I could be reassured that my move was progressing as expected. I kept asking myself "is it really this simple?" IT WAS!

Upack was definitely the best option for me while moving. The representative who took my initial call was very helpful and even called some of the local terminals from which my belongings would be shipped to ask questions on my behalf. The price was the best by far, having compared to uhaul, full service companies, and PODS. I used trailer space rather than the one size container so I was afforded more flexibility on how much space I used. My items arrived within a week with no trouble.

I have a bit of a wild experience, they gave me a container with a hole in the roof and rain ruined my bedroom suite from Ashleys furniture, which had cost me over 10k. They admitted they were at fault and then offered me $900 but only AFTER I agreed to sign a gag order forbidding me telling anyone of the experience. They claim that all of your belongings become freight and that they are only worth .10 cent a pound. No matter what the actual worth of the items are....BEWARE!!!
