Based on the only experience my family has had with City Garage I’m totally disconcerted that ethics and reproach are in the “policy” of City Garage. I would caution anyone not having a fair automobile acumen to avoid City Garage at all costs, male or female. I think my making the previous, adverse, comment deserves some history…my youngest son, with a confirmed IQ level of 146, but not much on the mechanical things in life, while I was out of town, working our family ranch, had issues with his truck (2004 GMC Sierra) starting and continuing to run once boosted, had his truck towed to City Garage’s Plano location. He chose City Garage because it was within the free towing range of his AAA membership. After leaving the truck there for some time a female employee of City Garage called my son and informed him the truck’s alternator was bad and the water pump was “dripping” and the total for the removal and replacement of the defective parts with new parts would be ~$1200. Not having the sufficient funds in his account (God is good!) he told them he would have to call is dad to get advice. He called me and I told him he could either find a way to come up with the $1200 or we could have it towed to a shop that I thought would repair the truck for less money. I have no problem with the price structure of any company and price only an issue in this instance because he didn’t have the money. Ultimately, we paid the ~$55 diagnostic fee and towed the truck-upon the truck being inspected by another mechanic I was informed that the alternator was in fact bad but the water pump was properly functioning keeping the vehicle in the “normal” temperature range, with vehicle no signs of leaking, while running under normal idle and driving conditions. Additionally, the entire system was pressured up and left for more than 1 hour with no signs of leaking. Furthermore, the radiator and the reservoir were at proper levels. So, you make up your own mind but, again, I would suggest taking your automotive repairs anywhere but City Garage.

Initially we were referred to City Garage by AAAs preferred auto service program (non-insurance repairs.) Graham and staff are excellent, and always answer the phone when you first call. they will give you a solid quote if you know what you want done or what the problem is. When you call for status it seems like everyone knows what stage your repairs are at, or can find out ASAP. Repairs are completed quickly and if there is a delay they know how long and why. As to mentions of pricing they may be a bit higher than competitors but you also get a two year warranty on parts and labor. Thanks to a bad switch (OEM Ford part, not the shops vendor) weve been back a few times on one car. They take it in, swap the part, and searched for alternatives for the future. Thats what you pay for, a good repair and a guarantee that is hassle free. They are also comprehensive in their safety checks. They arent going to shake you down for additional repairs that arent warranted either. On one car they found a timing chain about to let go. The maintenance repair cost a whole lot less than a new engine when that puppy died on the highway. This is my go to shop, even though its a bit away from my home and work. If you want it done right, and you want it to stay right this is your shop. Maintenance isnt cheap, but it sure saves money in the long run if youre dedicated to keeping a vehicle for the long haul.

I LOVE City Garage. I feel comfortable when I am given an estimate on repairs that I am being treated fairly and not being taken advantage of because Im not an auto mechanic. As a female, this is huge! So many car repair establishments assume if youre a female that youre an idiot; this is not the case with City Garage. Everyone that works there is friendly and courteous. I never have to worry that they are over charging me for repairs, or wanting to make any unnecessary repairs. They even tell me if something needs to be replaced right away or if repairs are not a safety issue and can wait. I have never experienced that anywhere. They even actually go by my owners manual recommendations for oil changes rather than like other places that say things like, "yes, the owners manual states oil changes every 6,000 miles or six months, but you still need to go with 3,000 miles or 3 months." I wont trust anyone else touching my car but City Garage.

I recently had my 3rd experience with City Garage. I have not had a problem with their work thus far. They seem to do what they say they are going to do and are timely in getting the car back. Like other shops around Plano the going rate for labor is near $100/hr. This also goes for diagnostic. The parts they use are mid grade stuff you get from Oreilly or Napa. From what I can tell you can expect about a 50% markup on parts which also seems about standard for the area. I have also had a repair done where I brought my own parts and they did the work without complaint. Some shops will not do this. Im only a few days into my latest repair and will report back if there are problems. They seem to do what they say they are going to do and stick to the quote. So long as they remain fairly straight shooters with the convenient location Im sure they will be around for a long time.

(This is verbatim from my Yelp review). I went to another local repair place and the repair bills (over $1000) kept coming in year after year (4 consecutive years). In frustration I switched places and the "problems" stopped. I am saving a lot of money. I have had things break like the weight inside my steering wheel (which is supposed to reduce vibration). A new one cost $600 and they said the wheel without the weight is fine. They were right, I cannot even tell the weight is missing. They saved me from wasting $600. A recent event was I got a nail in my tire. When I took it there they found an additional nail near the edge of the tire that they said they could not safely repair. Again not only did they advise me from wasting my money, their inspection and advice was free. It feels good to be able to trust the car repair place again.

Took my 06 Altima there to check the AC as its SOMETIMES doesnt work while driving it and it over heats. First was told that they will run a test on it and give me a call after lunch which never happened. I called around 6 pm and was told theyre still working on it and to expect a call back soon. They called and told me nothing wrong with the ac unit and they will run an engine test overnight and that i will pick it up on Monday. Got the call on Monday saying that the gasket head was damged during the test and I will need to pay $3500 to get it fixed. Of course they still charged me $55 for the AC test. Now the AC works fine and the car doesnt over heat BUT the coolant leaks into the engine and oil is just water. I wish I can give ZERO stars for breaking my car and not even admit what they did.
