I have used Tunex for years in other cities. Never been to the one in AF. I had a bad 6" rubber hose on my Power Steering line by the cooler. I had put a temporary one in place so my wife could get there to get it replaced properly. I called and told them what the problem was. I asked how much, when they could get the car in, and how long before it was fixed. The answers were $50, right away, and 30 minutes. I sent my wife (while I was at work in SL) there with our 5-year old, 3-year old, and 8-month old expecting she would be done in short order. They spent 30 minutes diagnosing the problem and came back with other things they saw that needed immediate attention ($1200 worth; not to mention the waiting area was freezing!). They called me and I told them just fix the hose for now. They said it has to be longer (and would cost $100) because what was there was too short. I told them that is what the manufacture put on and unless there was a recall on it I just wanted it replaced for the $50 they quoted me. I was then told it would not be warranteed since it was not longer and it would be done in 2-3 hours. I openly voiced my disapproval and concern and reminded him what he had said previously on the phone. I did not call to ask how long until they found the problem (which I told them up-front) but how long until it was fixed. I was not about to have my wife waiting with our 3 small boys for 2-3 hours in a cold waiting room. I called my wife after and told her what they said. She said the guy at the desk was not happy at all. I WAS NOT HAPPY and I was the customer and this was the way we were being treated? We decided to just get it fixed since the temporary hose I put on would only last a couple days tops. She call me back and said they were going to get to it right away and it would be done in less than 30. Shocked me! 15 minutes later my wife called and said it was done and they had put on not one but 2 longer hoses and were only charging $44. For what they did and the price they charged I was very appreciative. I was going to turn my back on Tunex forever after this experience but they were able to redeem themselves.

Back in 2006 I was preparing to move to California and I took my SUV in to make sure that it would be able to make the trip. I also had them give me a list of recommended things to repair/replace in the near future. I was good to go and got a very detailed list of things that eventually needed to be done. I paid about $60 for all of that and thought that this was the greatest place on earth. I ended up moving back to A.F. a couple of years later and took a different vehicle in to get it inspected and registered. I was expecting to get the same great service and see the same people. I was so wrong! I had just replaced the windshield from Diamond Glass and they gave me a coupon for a FREE safety and emissions inspection at Tunex. They guy said that they only honored one or the other (free safety or free emissions). I physically showed them the coupon and they didnt even seemed phased. I debated with him for several minutes and he just wouldnt do it! Several months after that I took that same vehicle in because the check engine light came on and I wanted to know what was wrong. I told the guy (same guy as before) that I wanted them to give me diagnostic to figure out what the problem was. He looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. I finally pointed to the "menu" board above us to show him what it said about the diagnostic. For some reason he seemed really reluctant to do it and kept telling me that it wasnt going to tell me anything, just give me a general code and it would take more time to figure out exactly what it meant-which meant more labor. Finally they came back and said that it was my emissions system and quoted me over $900 to change the spark plugs, wires, o2 sensors and an oil change. I obviously declined and went straight over to checkers and got the spark plugs, wires, o2 sensors, and oil all for about $200 and completed the work by dinner time. Those people there just dont seem to be the sharpest tools in the shed. I have since gone elsewhere for my auto care.

I took my truck in to get my intake gasket replaced as it had a small leak (should have been $2-300). They told me they broke my distributor (which they refused to pay for) and when I got it back $750 later, I couldnt even get out of their parking lot. The clutch didnt work anymore, and the engine ran so rough it kept dying. I had them take it back, but after looking it over, they told me that my clutch slave cylinder was broken, and that Id lost all my fluid. Funny, since Id never had any problems with it, nor did my truck leak anything. As for the engine, they couldnt figure out why it ran so rough. They didnt take any responsibility, and I ended up having to replace the clutch cylinder myself. I took it back again to have them fix the rough engine, and they told me they couldnt help me. I ended up having to take it to the dealer, which cost me another $800 as Tunex had apparently broken off some bolts, causing a massive intake vacuum leak. It took the dealer a while to drill out the broken bolts and replace them as well as patch the other 3 vacuum leaks theyd found where hosed were just never re-attached and had melted on the intake. Just to top it off, my intake gasket still leaks, just in a different spot now. A few years ago, this Tunex was a great place. None of the old mechanics are there anymore, and I will NEVER go back.

Weve been to this Tunex about 4 times since we moved here a year ago. A friend referred us to them, saying they are honest, have competitive prices, and great service. They have never told us anything needed to be done that didnt. (My husband knows enough about cars to tell.) We have never had a problem and have been pleased with each service. Recently, we had Emissions and Inspection done somewhere else because of a coupon we had. They told me the brake pads/shoes were worn too low and didnt pass inspection. When my husband, who has replaced our brake pads before, checked the wear on them, he found that they were not nearly as worn as I had been told. I took the car into the AF Tunex for a free brake inspection, and they showed me that the pads measured fine(low but not too much), didnt need to be replaced yet, and shouldve passed inspection. We were able to get it all resolved there and take care of registration. I was so grateful for their honesty and helpfulness. We definitely recommend this shop!
