I went to the post office to send a book I just sold on Amazon that the customer wanted to ship out immediately. I go to Randolph-Macon, and I was in class all day from around 8:10 am to 5:20 pm with a break about an hour break at 12:10 pm. I went straight to the post office during my break to send my book and I started waiting in the 10 mile long line. After waiting for about 5 minutes a lady who works there walked up to me and said "Im sorry we cant serve you, we are all going out to lunch from 12:30-1:30. I looked at my phone and it was 12:25, and I had already wasted time waiting in line. So I was unable to send that book to the customer because the post office in Ashland is so inconvenient to their customers. Excuse me, why does the whole place close for a whole hour so they can all get lunch? Have they not heard of taking short lunch breaks in shifts? I recommend never using USPS if you are in Ashland. Use FedEx, UPS, or any other parcel service because it will be loads better.

2nd time in a year I have stopped receiving my mail. I dont know how many times I have to fill out a change of address form online to get it. I have already paid 3 different times in the past year to change it. The first time I didnt get it, i asked the mail man about what I should do and he just gave me an attitude and practically expressed he didnt care about me recieving my mail (Thank goodness he is no longer my mail man anymore). This time, i called the post office and the lady said there was nothing on file and i have been receiving my mail. Then why is there no mail in my mailbox and why did my husbands job tell him they got a letter marked return to sender?? The lady told me to pick up my returned mail and bring it in to the post office. I just want my mail that is addressed to me. No need to fill out change of address form (AND PAY for it) 3 times.

Employees are lazy!!! I had a package shipped UPS Surepost which means UPS transfers it to USPS for the final delivery. The package already loses a day in transfer from sitting at the Richmond sorting facility. I was hoping to get it early when it arrived in Ashland. When i went to ask a representative if i could get the package he said, "they come in on a pallet of 100 packages" and that i would have to wait til tomorrow. He didnt even bother looking to see if it was there. I have had this done in the past and the manager told me they only get a few arrivals like that a day. Now I know they may have received more than normal but did not even bother to look talk about lazy and poor customer service! This is why I always try to ship UPS. This was was an incident of pure laziness by one employee normally I dont have any complaints about this location.

HORRIBLE service. Do not trust these people with your mail. Medication that has been getting delivered to me monthly for 4 years, to the same address somehow ended up in farmville instead of Hanover. Not their fault BUT when I went in with the routing number, asking them to see what was going on, and get it straightened out they checked and said that it had been in farmville, but was now in Staunton getting ready to come to me in Hanover. I reiterated that it was very important medication. That was at 9:30 am. at 2:30 pm it gets delivered to some random po box in farmville! when I called back to tell them, all they did was give me a customer service number. Their entire lack of apathy, and ability to do their jobs has jeopardized my health. DO NO USE THEM!

I originally wished it would close down just so the bitter staff at the desk (and manager) would be put to pasture, but theyd probably just be relocated to the next closest post office and Id have to drive further and still get their subpar service. So now I just avoid using the Ashland Post Office at all cost even if I pay more to ship or receive packages from other services. Dont get me wrong, there is an occasional friendly face behind the counter, but Im there about twice a week for 2 years now and most of the time its like they hate you for needing any kind of service they provide.

The first time I went was early December but they werent extremely busy. The clerk went out of his way to help me send a small envelope of an old picture with glass on it that couldnt easily be removed without the possibility of destroying the picture. He was very personable and got the problem taken care of quickly.

As evidenced by the reviews over the past year, the quality of service provided has declined greatly! I have voiced my concerns on the driving habits of the delivery drivers. ABSOLUTE DISREGARD FOR THE SPEED LIMITS MY NEIGHBORHOOD!!!!! Maybe when they run over a child they will learn to slow down!

Just moved to the area. Ill drive the extra 10 miles to go to another PO. Staff is very rude and condescending to customers, especially white customers. There was a noticeable difference in the way they treated black and white customers. All customers should always be treated courteously.

I had a great experience at this post office. It was not busy when I was there and the gentleman working the counter was polite, friendly, and suggested an alternate shipping box that saved me money. I live in California so I was pleased to receive such kind and personal attention.

I found the service at this location to be sub par and the person who was supposed to help me was condescending and flippant and not helpful. I decided to not mail my package and will be going to a different USPS location. I do not plan to this location again.

Is it possible to give less than one star! Apparently Monday, November 14, 2016 is a mail holiday as the post office decided not to deliver the mail today.

I really wish I still lived close to this location! I miss the friendly and hardworking staff. I will spend the time and gas to drive out here from now on.

This is the best post office. The employees there are very nice and have been there for years.
