Customer service is much better than before! When I first moved to Seattle 4 years ago I went to Village Auto when it was operated by the previous owner. All right guy, but I would leave feeling like I had done something wrong, or knew nothing at all. Im not a mechanic but I usually work on my car if I have the tools and sometimes have half a clue of whats going on. He would just scoff at any idea I had, and bend my cars signs/symptoms to whatever he wanted the diagnosis to be. Just felt like I wasnt being listened to. I hadnt been there in a while and recently took the car in to replace a bad wheel bearing - I was pretty sure of what it was this time. Erik, the new owner, was very nice and straight forward. I went in expecting to be told that whatever I was saying was bunk but he genuinely listened! They did an excellent job with the car and during it he sincerely suggested some new tires for the rear. I am generally cheap and will run my brakes and tires to the end but I could tell that he wasnt just trying just to "upsell" on this sale (plus, a week prior I had 2 separate tire places tell me I should really change those tires). Erik told me they had some tires in my size, which is an odd size to begin with. He later realized he made a mistake and only had a more expensive pair in that size but still gave me those for the same price. I would never have asked for that but wow, thats just above and beyond! I know that this shop is probably not one of the cheapest that one will find (I had a roommate who would take his car to some hole in the wall on that Im sure is cheaper/sketchier), but especially because of the great work and change in attitude about customer service with the new ownership I will keep taking my car there as long as I live here and until it dies its heroic fiery death. I work as an EMT in Burien/White Center and see BS all the time, Erik is legit and he is working really hard to fix the old image of the shop. I would recommend the new Village Auto to anyone!

I just brought in my car last week for a simple flat repair and brake check and i wish i would have gone elsewhere!!!! i called in about an hour before i showed up and was told to bring it down right away and they would be able to take a look at it. Upon arriving i had to wait in the front room for a good 15 minutes before someone finally came out of the back to greet me. the manager KJ told me that they would look at it and i can come back in 45min to pick it up. aftter about an hour or so of shopping at the village i walked over expecting the car to be finished.....not the case!!! KJ told me that the tire had to be replaced because of a small gash in the side..... alright, ets just do it i say... KJ tells me that the tire is not in stock and i have to leave the car there because they are now liable if the tire explodes and i can only have it towed off the lot....alright again.... now starts the real nightmare. I waited around all day for KJ to call me and finally around 4 i picked up the phone to check the status and they tell me its been done since morning and that they had called earlier, doughtful... I go in to grab my car and to my surprise i now have 4 new tires...... what i asked for or had wanted since the old tires only had 5k. I then told the other manager Nick that was working that i had not agreed to 4 tires and i only wanted the one.. after arguing with him for about 30 minutes because they insisted i pay to have the old tires put back on he finally agreed to do it for free, whicg was great. but since he was arguing for so long, Nick then told me that they wouldnt be able to do it that night and i would again have to leave it there... after all this it took a total of 4 days to get 1 tire replaced cost way more than competitors. I learned my lesson and will never be back... Appearantly this place is under same management as the jiffy lube on 55th and 25th.... bly wont go there now either

Village Auto Care is a decent place to change your oil because of their convenient location at the U-village mall, but beware, Tom likes to scare people by giving them dire warnings about the impending doom of their car unless they get hundreds of dollars worth of maintenance and fluid changes. Hes been telling me that my serpentine belt is hanging by a thread for 2 years, even though the belt only has regular wear cracks on it. Just like Matt, who wrote the previous review, I tend to think that most of the positive reviews are written by the employees of Village auto care. Just look at the common themes: ASE certified staff (ok, as if a regular customer is going to know what this certification means and as if it is the first thing they would care about); the other theme: "oh, Im a female student who doesnt know about cars and all bad mechanics try to take advantage of me, but not Tom--he is so great and honest." The bottom line is, I have no basis for questioning the quality of their work, but I do think they do try to bilk you. Make sure to shop around for the best price and get a second opinion if you get a list of "urgent and necessary" repairs from Tom.

I would stay as far as possible from this shop. I took my car there once but I am never doing it again. The owner talked all smoothly and nicely but in my opinion he is a scammer. I went in for a simple repair and somehow they talked me into spending $800 on a $2000 car. The owner then gave me a long list of things that had to be done on the car that would cost me another $1500. I was then a bit suspicious and took my car to Bellevue, to one of my trusted shops. They did everything for $400 and told me I did not need any of that "invented" work on the car. All the above itseld would not be too bad, as most of the shops sucker you in for more work than the car actually needs once they detect that you are not really knowledgable in cars. But what made me give this shop the lowest rating was that when they did an oil change they forgot to put the engine cap back on so my engine was squirting oil for several days until I detected the smell.

I do not know what happened with renae, but I had a totally different experience. These guys are 5 stars all the way!!! I have never spent 30 minutes on the phone with the owner of a business explaining what is happening with my car in plain terms. Bob took the time to explain what was happening with my car, what services would have prevented the problems and how to keep my car running as cost effectively as possible. Other places had just presented an enormous estimate with no explaination, ending up with me fixing whatever I had come in for and forgeting about the rest. That is of course, what got me to these guys in the first place. A friend recommended them to me, and I thank them every time I get in my car. Seriously, if you want quality service these guys are hands down THE BEST and affordable to boot!
