Glendale AAMCO does do great work. But, as with anything you should get a second oppinion. For example, I took my vehicle for a leaking transmission under warranty which was replaced at an AAMCO in Washington state while traveling. (A mistake and yet another story, as this was the 5th AAMCO visited regarding the transmission within a year and a half since replaced.) During visual inspection they suspected a seal which requires sliding back the transmission to replace. (FYI - allows access to the engines rear main seal as well.) I was given a call later that day stating the transmission had loose hoses (not the seal) and was fixed. He then informed me that the rear main seal and oil pan gasket were leaking and recommended replacement of both, as he was "concerned" for me. I was quotted $700 to replace the main seal and another $900 to replace the pan gasket. (Yes, for my vehicle it requires 8 hours of labor and includes removal of the transmission.) He then suggested I should have the water pump replaced which showed signs of failure, $280. And finally the rear differential needed servicing for $130. After my mouth dropped on the price for the pan gasket I questioned the pricing and the quote actually turned out to be a fair dealership price. However during my decision making and questions he cut me short and said he just thought of something and would call me back. He did so with a modification in the pricing saying the transmission would already be removed while doing the pan gasket and could save that portion of the labor, changing the rear main quote from $700 to $186.14. Things to know: 1. My truck showed no signs of oil leakage on my driveway, even if it had a mild leak would not warrant the initial quote of $1,600. No way was that going to happen. 2. Labor to remove my transmission estimated charge of $500. 3. When he called with the quote the transmission was still removed for the warranty repair. 4. Understanding he initially tried to triple charge I was turned off and was no way going to trust him at that point even with the water pump as I had seen no evidence or loss of water. 5. I have an awesome mechanic who I completely trust. Afterward, I scheduled an appointment with my trusted mechanic. (I had to wait a week because he was booked solid.) The day after he said come and get it. I get there and he gives me a bill of $130 along with his findings. No rear main leak, no pan gasket leak, he did replace the water pump. (I didnt tell him to check the differential, an oversight). So breaking the initial quote down: one transmission removal charge covered under warranty. A second charge for the transmission removal for the rear main. And yet a third transmission charge removal for the pan gasket. Yes, after questioning the charge he did call back and removed the one removal charge for the rear main. Again, it is Important to understand the transmission was still removed under the warranty when he called, as it took them a couple hours to put back together after the call. So the short story, by getting a second opinion I turned the modified repair quote of $1,516.94 from AAMCO to $130 from a tried and trusted mechanic. I got to keep $1,386.94 in my pocket. Bottom line; manifested repairs and double charging for same labor is a common practice. Point is; when dealing with anybody always get a second opinion and pay no attention to the personality of the sales person.

I found this coupon for AAMCO transmissions offering a transmission service for $19.99, I had had no issues with my transmission but thought this would be a good time to do some preventative maintence so I scheduled a appointment. When I got there (having to take the day off work) they told me the coupon doesnt apply to my vehicle. Feeling kinda mislead I went ahead anyway (having taken the day off) for the agreed $79.00. The service was quick and efficient , everything seem to be ok until a couple of days after I started hearing a winding sound and decided (which one wouldnt think they would have to do) to check my transmission fluid levels. The dipstick shows bone dry both in park and neutral (with the engine running). After close to 1000 miles and 5 days later (I drive for a living) Im sitting at AAMCO transmissions waiting for them to open and see how they might explain this away and very concerned with what damage to my transmission has been done.. Side note: The paperwork says the warranty for their work is 40 miles, who the f***ing is going to know something may be wrong in 40 miles. They are suppose to be the professionals, are we the consumers suppose to check their work, are we going to have to check our oil after we have it changed. Its a sad day when you cant trust a place to put the right amount of transmission fluid in. Im just feeling lucking that I may have avoided something very costly, or was this their way of trying to get more work. I vote either incompetent or untrustworthy .

My truck was running fine when I brought it in because of a check engine light. I was told that it would take a day to diagnose, and depending on what was wrong, the repairs could cost $300 - $700. The next day I called to get a status on my truck and was told that my transmission would need to be taken apart and that it would be another day. After another day I was told that my transmission would need to be rebuilt. I really wasnt planning on being without a vehicle for so long, so I asked to come pick up my vehicle. I was told that I couldnt pick it up. My transmission was apart and could not be put back together. My new repair estimate was $1700 - $2200 and I couldnt get a second opinion, I couldnt get my truck back in the condition that I brought it in, I couldnt wait to get the repairs done at a later time when I had more money, I was stuck. With no other options, my repairs came out to be more than the high end of the estimate. I dont know if anything less than honest took place, I couldnt get my truck back to have anyone else look at it. It just seemed strange that my transmission was taken apart and could not be put back together (as it was when I brought it in), which meant that I was at the mercy of AAMCO. And it also seemed strange that now that I was at the mercy of AAMCO, the repairs went all the way up to the high end of the estimate. The whole experience left me with a bad feeling and I wont be doing business there again.

I just relocated from out of state, and I had been going to the same mechanic that Ive known and trusted for years. I found this location online and read all of the good reviews, and after my experience I wanted to write my own. I called and spoke with Danny about looking over my transmission. Id just had a replacement with a used transmission, and its warrantied with another dealer. I said this up front, and explained that I wanted a second opinion because my car hasnt driven the same since the replacement and I suspected that there were some issues. I had already taken it back to the place that did the work and they had looked it over and told me there wasnt anything wrong. Danny was more than happy to look it over, and confirmed what Id already suspected. He gave me detailed explanations of what exactly needed to be done, and even discounted an oil change for me because of the recent troubles Id had. I really appreciate someone who can stand up and do the right thing even knowing that I was going to have the work done somewhere else. I needed a trustworthy mechanic, and I will definitely be returning to Danny and his crew in the future when I need work done on my car. Its service like this that keeps loyal customers coming back for years!
