AJs WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY WHEN THEY DAMAGE YOUR CAR Yesterday AJs put a one and a half inch gouge in the rear fender of my car all the way through the paint to the metal. After their "self investigation" they told me they are not accepting responsibility for the damage they caused. Im not suggesting they will damage every car they service. I AM suggesting that when they do they will not own up to it which shows me they are not the "customer comes first" type of business they claim to be. If you read through other negative reviews you will find a trend of denying responsibility when they cause damage. If you go there, keep them honest by having them walk around your car and note any and all existing damage before you give them the keys otherwise you will be stuck with the damage they cause, they are not trustworthy. I will never go back and will tell eveyone I know (including car club members) about my experience here. Another point to make is they use compressed air to dry cars which can unseat window, door, hood and trunk seals causing leaks. If you have a convertible and youre brave enough to trust these guys, make sure you tell them NOT to use compressed air to dry anything near your top. They do this to cut corners and save time. Ive also noticed that the shop replies to negative reviews on yelp with a very condescending and defensive tone, yet another sign of poor customer service. It comes across really fishy that this many people would complain about the shop causing damage and their opinion is all those customers are lying. Im curious to know how many times they have actually owned up to their carelessness and paid for repairs compared to the amount of complaints that they simply dismiss. Dont be suckered in by the pictures of Ferraris and Lamborghinis all over their walls, this is not a quality focused outfit. This is a zero star review.

It pains me to write this being a small business owner myself but I feel its necessary. I used to come in here often to bring my two vehicles (1999 M3 and 2011 M3). I brought my car in a 1999 M3 several months ago and they quoted me about an hour for the hand car wash. It ended up taking over two hours and it took numerous followup on my part to check on the status. Their excuse too many people using their Groupon coupons. I wasnt in that category I paid regular price for a hand wash. I contacted the manager at the time who wasnt very helpful at trying to rectify the situation. He didnt appear to value repeat business. I stopped taking my 2011 M3 there several months ago since another detail shop takes much more care washing and waxing it. I brought the 99 M3 again about two weeks ago. I was a bit surprised to find out they can only do a mini detail now for 50.00. I wasnt looking for a wax since my car is in a garage and it has a coat of high quality wax from several months ago from another detailer I took it to. My last visit at AJs they were doing a hand wash for 40.00. I honestly couldnt tell the difference it seemed to be the same type of job for a higher price. When I was younger I used to detail my cars along with family vehicles. I dont do that anymore since it takes alot of time and effort and Im quite particular on who details my cars. The guy that was finishing up didnt seem to be happy nor friendly and there were spots on the roof that werent taken care of. It doesnt appear they take pride anymore in their work as they used to and they should be checking over the car surfaces much more better. This probably explains why there were a lot less cars on this particular weekday afternoon when they used to have quite a bit more vehicles coming in.

Ive been coming to AJs, a block or two down from Coleman/Hwy 880, for nearly 10 years, since 2005 for about 3 times a year to keep my Z4 looking its best. There youll see plenty of regular cars & trucks, a bunch of upscale rides and customs, and at least one AMG, Lambo, Ferrari, or Maz each time I go. They even detail boats. I always get the complete exterior/interior package and includes polish and polymer wax, which lasts much longer than carnuba wax. This place has a great earned reputation, not only for the job but their prices are the best, too. Thats why there is a line each day. And get on their email list for frequent coupons. And there is an occasional Groupon offering. Youll like what you see, and do like most of us do, leave those had working detailers a well deserved tip. Get there early so you can to beat the crowd (customers start to line up 20 min before opening to be first in, first out), otherwise youve got a 3-4 hour wait before your vehicle is done. But you can leave it and come back later. If you are there by 8-8:30am you get your car in right away, which takes a good 2 hours, because thats how long a good detail job will take. There is a delicious taco truck set up across the street, always there and always good, plus youve got the Shopping center across Coleman with Target, Panera, TJ, Petsmart, plenty of eating places and shopping to be had. Newly added in last few months is a remodeled waiting room. Before it was a small no frills spot to wait. But now they have converted a bay into a very large waiting room with big screen, drinks, coffee, and free wi-fi with outlets all around.

AJs is still the best car wash/detailing place in San Jose when it comes to quality, but I have not been happy with some of the changes since they changed owners late last year, hence the 4 star rating. One day, I showed up mid-afternoon (~2pm) and they were at capacity, but said they could take me if I got one of the more expensive services. Really? Id think it should be the opposite... if youre at capacity how can you squeeze in a 3 hour job but not a 1 hour job? Also, they started charging a fee to use a credit card. Id understand this if they were taking small payments, but this is a place that doesnt offer a service under $50, and has recently hiked up prices significantly. You should take the hit with the fee like everyone else or work it in to your prices. They also have been quoting very high time estimates for their work. Now, I understand the whole under promise and over deliver thing, but to quote 3 hours for an express wax when there is no line? I stayed and it ended up taking just over an hour, which is great, but I was about to leave when they said 3 hours. These are all small things, but my recent experiences havent been up to par with the past few years of coming here. But again, the quality of their work has not changed, its top-notch, and Im super meticulous when it comes to my car being clean inside and out.

I have been trading with them for several years, total of more than a dozen vehicles done with them between myself and several friends that I have turned onto AJs. Always had deluxe services done, The Works, Inside/Outside w/clay, etc etc. Its a DETAIL shop so detail is king. However, I think they have become victims of their own success. The last two times, once with a friends Lexus, where they broke a piece of the interior and hid it, and did a so so job on the car polish, to the latest event where I had a black Jaguar interior/exterior w/clay done---left it all day. When picked up, it looked fairly good, but when I got it home, could see it had not been clayed very well or polished out. So next day I did it myself. 300 dollars down the drain. I think rather than hassle them about it, I need to accept that they have way more customers than they can handle given their setup. They did do a major renovation, but they need to add capacity and hire more people. They are pushing too many cars through in a day with too few people. Sad it is, but I will go elsewhere now, after several years of good experience. Now I have to tell my friends to beware as well. So long.
