"Work on your own car!" That is what I was told by the owner after I was questioning why he flushed the power steering fluid and replaced with a non factory recommended fluid and conditioner (BGs) without getting my authorization first. Of course he expected me to pay the $90 also. As an educated consumer I am aware of the consumer protections in place by the state that do require my authorization first, so I walked away. Ken - if your are reading this, here is what the the factory recommendation is on power steering, direct quote from the 2010 Chevy Traverse Owners Manual. Section Section 10-20 Power Steering Fluid: "What to Use To determine what kind of fluid to use, see Recommended Fluids and Lubricants on page 11‑7. Always use the proper fluid. Notice: Use of the incorrect fluid may damage the vehicle and the damages may not be covered by the vehicles warranty. Always use the correct fluid listed in Recommended Fluids and Lubricants on page 11‑7." Section 11-7 States: "Hydraulic Power Steering System GM Power Steering Fluid (GM Part No. U.S. 89021184, in Canada 89021186)." To be clear, BG power steering fluid and conditioner does not meet this specification. Background: I took our Traverse to their shop after we were having intermittent power steering failures. It was showing all signs of a power steering pump failure, however I wanted to have them do a full diagnosis to ensure it wasnt another component. We had the power steering rack replaced a year earlier, so I wanted to be sure that it was not failing again. Ken did admit that the tech was unable to reproduce the issue. He also said the fluid was dirty. At this point the proceeded to to flush and replace the fluid and add some conditioner. The Chevy Traverse (along with many other cars) does not have recommended power steering fluid replacement intervals because the fluid should last the lifetime of the system (lifetime=when theres a component failure that creates metal debris contamination to the fluid). Keep in mind, that our Traverse has only 44,000 miles on it....oh wait, but the fluid has less than 10,000 miles on it because it was replaced last September due to the aforementioned power steering rack replacement. Ken, you get two stars instead of one because you have worked on our other three vehicles in the past and have done a great job. I know your shop has great business and I probably wont be missed. It felt good helping out a neighborhood business, however, unfortunately I will have to work on my on cars as you recommended.

Let me start off by saying that my bad experience is almost solely due to the receptionist lady. I dropped my car off to have an estimate on the repairs that would need to be done to get it running again on a monday Night, i called in the next day to see the progress around 1pm and the lady replied that she thought it was in the line to get worked on and "not to call her, she would call me." I never heard back from her so i called a couple hours from the closing of the shop. This lady was the most rude, un-caring person i have ever met. I just wanted to know if my estimate would be done that day or not, she yelled and said that "i told you the other day it would take a while, we had 8...no 22 tows come before you. i will call you when i call you, DONT call me." and then hung up. To leave someone in the dark about when there car is going to be done is like going to a resturant and saying there is a wait, and we will call you up when we call you. Thats simply unacceptable, to not know if its a 15 min wait or 4 hr wait determines peoples plans. It seems as if this lady did not want to make estimates on a time a persons car would be done so people wouldnt complain to her, but she merly took her anger feelings out on other people who were just concered about their car... As far as the owner and his son Alex... Alex was VERY, VERY nice and great with me. He apologized deeply for the receptionist and said he would call me personally the next day. He is probably the nicest person and best with his customers. Please, community auto, for your own sake, i know its hard, but fire the receptionist and hire someone who is going to be phenomenal with their client. In summary: if you are looking at this shop, in its present state, the receptionist is horrible, the shop is very busy so it takes a while to get your car in, the techs are good and the owners are great.Their prices seem fair and there diagnostics are correct, though they could be a little more expansive on explaining mechanical problems in laymens term to make their costumers feel more at ease.

These guys are totally corrupt. I dropped my car off for a brake job. I decided they were too expensive and when I got my car back, I got a mile down the street and found my drivers side electronic window control was broken. I called back and, very politely, mentioned what I had found. Alex immediately jumped on me saying "nobody broke your window control!". I calmed him down and asked him politely: did you happen to ask the porter who moved my car if he used the window? Alex replied "uh... no". I politely asked if he could ask him and he said "okay". He came back on the phone and told me that his employee "doesnt remember if he used the window" and suggested I bring the car back. Reluctantly, I agreed. When I got to the office, I was met at the door by Ken, the owner. I showed him the breakage and he instantly started screaming at me that his guy didnt do it. He started berating me that his guy was never in the car. But my car was in a different place when I picked it up. He got so crazy so quickly. I was shocked and horrified and, honestly, I deal with some unsavory characters from time to time (see my user name). We were still talking about it and walked into the shop to talk to Alex about what he had told me. Alex then proceeded to deny what he told me in the phone call. I didnt understand why they would call me back there if this was their intent. Ken started screaming that I was a scam artist. I was taken aback, needless to say. Considering how whacky Ken was acting and how Alex lied about what he said, I asked for their insurance information. Ken obviously refused and asked me for my card? I asked for the insurance information again and that is when Ken got in my face and slammed his hand on the counter in a threatening manner and screamed for me to get out of his shop. He startled me and the two nice young ladies who, unfortunately, had to witness this (possibly stimulant induced) rage. People who are sober dont do things like this. Trust me. This, I know.

The worst mechanic experience I had so far was with these bunch of hippies. I drove my car to this shop because it would die on me on the highway after about 15 to 20min drive. I put in new fuel pump to my Sentra GXE and camshaft/crankshaft sensors. After a few days they were not able to fix the issue and told me "Your car doesnt start and if you want it we can offer a $69 towing fee to your place. Remember I drove my car to them!!!!!!! after a couple of weeks and $450 fee they seemed to have fixed the dying issue by messing up the idle. Now when the car is Neutral or Park the RMP cursor keeps going up and down and you hear the engine like someone keeps pushing gas. The 4 cylder 1.8L car now uses gas like a v12. Also found out some wires that were cut. One of their bullshit mechanics came out and told me "you car computer is fried and is not perfect it will never be perfect look at it" and was referring to my dented fender and door which was not what I went there for. Watch out for these guys I am really disappointed and didnt wanna be a dick and block the payment from my bank, I should have. I went to Nissan experts yes the dealer and they told me that the car only needed a tune up which is around $149 and change the air filter and sensor. It doesnt have no computer problem, no leaks and it should be in a good derivable condition. Why A lotta mechanics are just freaking Aholes seriously.
