Dishonest, Incompletent, and Unprofessional people. I have two incidents of bad experience at this shop. First time I took my car for thier advertised wheel alignment. I dropped off my car and came back home, and then got a phone call from them. They told me that they cant do the alignment because the cars spindle was bent which would have to be replaced for about $230 before they could do alignment. I asked them to wait, and to compare price I called the dealer. The dealer told me that the car doesnt have any spindle, and someone was trying to rip me off. I went back to this Pep Boys and brought the car back. No work done. Either they were incompetent or dishonest. Second time I took my car to them for oil change and asked them to check for occassional starting problem I was having. I dropped off my car, and after I got back, they told me that they had changed oil but the battery was bad and needed replacement. They could do that for $79. I was surprised because I had my battery replaced at Walmart just six months ago, and was still under warranty. So, I took my car to Walmart which is less than a mile from Pep Boys. Walmart people tested the battery and told me that the battery tested out fine, and it could be starter or alternator which they dont work on. The Walmart mechanic asked me that since I was there, would I like to have oil changed. I told him that the Pep Boy people did that just 15 minutes ago. I could see the disbelief in Walmart mechanics eyes, and he said, "No, your car has a Toyota filter and it has dust around it. It has not been touched." I immediately went back to this Peb Boys, and told them that they were crooks. Since there were several other customers, the Peb Boy guy tried to hush up the matter and accepted the mistake and gave me a free oil change coupon. However, when I went there next time with the free coupon to get the oil change done, there was a different guy and he said that he would not work on my car because someone (apparently the other guy who I had to deal with last time) had put a note "REFUSE SERVICE TO THIS CUSTOMER." My advice: "AVOID THIS REPAIR SHOP."

In January I paid $80 to find out why my oil was leaking and they informed me there were two gasket covers which had to be replaced. I brought the car back in to get them replaced and approximately 1-1.5 hours into a 5.5h job they tell me that there are four more covers that have to be replaced and the cost nearly doubled. After I choked that down and said ok I was still waiting at the location and about 3 hours later they informed me that one of the parts they had ordered was ordered from CALIFORNIA and the service wouldnt be completed until the following day. I vented about this and about 30m later one of their service managers (Brian) told me that he was able to locate one at a nearby dealership and drove out personally to pick it up... this was the most positive part of my experience, which is still not finished. Total time at the location was 9 hours. After all that headache as I go to get in my car I find that there is coolant leaking out at an alarming rate and it turns out there was a clamp that wasnt clamped on completely. On my way home I feel the car doing something odd but I was too pissed to pay attention to it and then I didnt drive more than a block the following two days. Today, when I get in my car, I find that it stutters and feels like youve hit a pothole whenever I decelerate at around 3rd to 2nd gears. When Im accelerating I can feel it hang for half a second before pulling out of approximately the same gear pair. Ive driven this car for over 175k miles and I KNOW when anything abnormal is happening, even if a balance weight goes out in one tire I can feel that. This locations only positive so far has been Brian. Hes tried his best to get the situation resolved and I give him credit, but I have zero faith in PepBoys at this point. Their master tech is going to be taking a look at it tomorrow and their corporate office is likely to be hearing from me shortly thereafter. Update edit: I brought my car out there and of course even though yesterday it did this the whole time I was driving I wasnt able to replicate the issue.

Went in for by 3 tires get one free.... definitely check out other places...kinda shady over there.. really not getting it for free. I understand charging a balancing fee per tire but got hit with "additional" labor of $50--which when specifically asked over the phone if any other charges than balancing the answer was NO and then when confronted he said it was for mounting the tire..WTF! Then in order to get the 4th free deal the road hazard warranty is mandatory at another $60 which was not disclosed over the phone either...when confronted, oh sorry, you were not quoted correctly, seriously WTF! Bottom line, waited over 1hr 30min, tires are not balanced correctly, felt like got ripped off and they forgot to cap one of the valve stems. Not going to go back, even for a windshield wiper.! UPDATE AS OF 3-31: Mamanger called back mid February said he wants to fix problem. Manager seemed like nice guy. I had them re-balance the tires and it was even worse. So he tells me that they do not have the propoer cone to ensure accurate balancing and I need to take it to another location. SOOOO, they knowingly jeopordized the safety of my family by sending me on the road with improperly balanced tires. When I contacts other locations that were out of my way to go to, they were not flexible with timing. Here in Denver there are a ton of 4runners and Tacomas that share the same rims and this location is improperly balancing all those vehicle that have the same stock rims as I do. Shananagins,,,& now instead of one missing cap, there are 2 missing caps. I live 2 miles from work and do not drive on highways much but when I did go 35+ front end skakes horribly and at 65 MPH it was absolutely horrible. & the 800 # customer service guy was not sympethetic at all--almost like its a re-occuring thing. Do not get take your vehicle to PEP BOYS for service.

Ok, first of all Im not the type to leave any reviews, but I felt compelled to leave one after my experience because I believe they deserve a better rating. Despite all of the negative reviews, I decided to bring my car in for an oil change the other day. I was extremely skeptical because of the rating... but I decided to go regardless. I went online and got a coupon for a $19.95 oil change. When I showed up I was greeted by Dan, he was really helpful and friendly. That coupon allowed me to get a free brake inspection, free tire rotation and oil change. I asked if they could check all of it...they were more than willing and happy to do it. Like any place Ive ever gone, I expected it to be a long wait. But that wasnt an issue because they have multiple restaurants to grab some food while I waited. Like ANY place Ive ever taken my car, they always say it needs a new air filter, steering wheel fluid...blah blah blah...which mine probably does need an air filter change, but I have a friend that will do it for me. Anyways, I did not feel pressured or that they were just trying to up sell me anything. Which I respect a lot. When Dan called to update me on my car, he gave me the option of including the air filter change...I denied. He then told me they will continue to work on my car and let me know of any issues with my brakes (because I thought I definitely needed new brake pads). Come to my surprise, I get a call about 30 mins later with the good news that my brake pads are fine and my car is ready. After getting my tires rotated and my oil changed my car is driving totally back to normal. Im very impressed and glad I didnt listen to all of the horrible reviews. I will definitely be going back for more services. The staff all seemed really nice too. Pleasantly surprised.
