I found Capitol Transmissions through a Google search of "best transmission shops in Hartford Ct" After reading the reviews ( a bit skeptical I admit ) I called and Paul answered the phone. From the moment I described my problem with my sons first car, a 15 yr old Jeep I felt confident I was dealing with an honest shop. I knew I was dealing with an owner that cared about his customers and reputation. Paul listened to my non technical explanation of what I thought was wrong and said bring it in. Paul called me shortly after his diagnosis and explained what he had found that needed repair and what he needed to do to resolve the issues. I explained that this is my sons first car and that I needed to know it is safe for him to travel 30 minutes to school and would be reliable. Paul told me he understood my concerns and would take care of it. I called several times while the jeep was there as it needed A LOT of work. Paul was always patient with me, would update me on the progress and thank me for calling. Upon delivery of the Jeep, Paul told me the repairs were more extensive than he originally thought and quoted me, ( Ok, here it comes, More $ ) and that I would NOT be charged the difference. I was shocked, I was a first time customer and had no history or connection to the shop, Why would he do this? Because Paul is all about customer service. I learned Paul and all the staff I spoke with were professional, courteous, and informative. At no time did I feel like "one of those customers" they truly went above and beyond. I have driven the Jeep with total confidence and know my son will be in a reliable safe vehicle, I will now be bringing my auto repair needs to Paul and his team whenever I needed.

I have a 1969 Chevelle with a TH350 transmission that needed rebuilding. Brian from Capitol Transmission knows cars. He walked me through options and provided a super great price. More importantly, their work is great. He let me see the other cars he was working on and they do all types of transmission work. Not many shops would do that. Most of their cars are newer but they definitely have a mix of old and new. There are not many knowledgeable, reliable and honest shops out there and Capitol Transmission is definitely on that short list of shops. To show you how honest they are, they found some other minor issues with the engine that I would have paid them to repair (valve cover gaskets leaking) but Brian figured out after talking to me I could do it myself. Instead of running up the bill, he told me the issue and let me fix the problem. I would take any car there and know that they are keeping costs down while provided A+ work. If you have any transmission or engine issue, go straight to Capitol Transmission. They are not just transmission specialist. They do it all. Paul and Brian are running a first rate shop.

The first time I came here was in 1989 when I thought I needed a new transmission for my 85 Chevy Pick-Up. They checked it out and found that it was a broken vacuum hose and charged me $ 75. Ten years later, I brought my dump truck in and they did a beautiful job on the transmission and gave me a great warranty. Plus, the savings over the dealer was incredible. Then, about five years ago, I brought my Cadillac Escalade in for a transmission repair. They did another amazing job for me. The truck never shifted so beautifully. Recently, I had the Caddy at my general mechanic who told me I had a transmission leak which would probably cost $ 1,200. Again, I decided to visit my old trustworthy friends at Capitol, where I was told it was a minor leak. They fixed it in one day and charged me $ 285. Great, honest shop and fun guys to deal with, which goes a long way. Im also bringing all my general repair here from know on also. Finally and this may sound cliché, but this is literally the type of business where you can send your daughter or wife and have nothing to worry about.

Capital Transmission was recommended to me by another mechanic about 18 months ago; who was unable to diagnose the transmission issue on my aging foreign car. Brian, Paul and their team are very knowledgeable, professional, and extremely courteous. I was given a quick and honest diagnosis which was far better than what I was expecting. They fixed my car and it has been running perfectly ever since. When I had a transmission fail on an older SUV they repaired it for a fair price and the truck is still going strong. You don’t find this level of professionalism now a days – in any industry!! I had to drop the SUV off unannounced in the middle of the July 4th holiday weekend and they not only gladly accepted it; but they had it repaired by Tuesday morning! They know how taxing car repairs can be and they are upfront, honest, and timely in getting you back up and running!! I highly recommend them and encourage everyone to give them a try. You won’t be disappointed and I bet you will recommend them to your family and friends as well!!

In 2011 my Honda Accord transmission needed to be replaced I bought my car to Capital Transmission, they did a great job and we were given a warranty 3 years or 100,000 miles, (which ever came first) about 3 weeks ago while driving my car started to shake and turned off on me, I was told by a mechanic it was the transmission so we took it back to Capital transmission at the time we were not to sure when they had replaced it after finding our paperwork we went back even though it was past 3 years they honored their warranty and repaired my transmission for free. We were happy and shocked at the same time since many places would have not honored it. My car feels great. We could not thank them anymore only to let everyone know that this is the place to go with any issues with your car, they are honest and the service is EXCELLENT.. We will not go any where else. Thank you Paul we will make sure we keep recommending your business to everyone. Thanks again

You know how youre always looking for mechanics you can trust? Well, a mechanic I trust implicitly, Pat Cahill of Cahills Motor Cars in Granby, recommended I bring my 2010 high-mileage Jeep Liberty to Capitol Transmission when the computer readout indicated trouble with some module in its transmission. Even though its a pain in the butt moving a disabled car that far, I did it because unlike location is with real estate, with automotive repair its reputation, reputation, reputation. Im glad I did. They took the time to check out all the options and even though I eventually decided to have the tranny rebuilt (hey, I love my Jeep) I had developed full confidence in these guys. Theyre bright, personable, accessible and extremely organized. Sure enough, the Liberty now drives like a charm. And with their multi-year 100,000 mile warranty Im not worried at all. Bring ALL your repair needs here. You will NOT regret it.
