Beware!! single women. Do your research. I came to Topeka knowing no one. My car needed some work and I took it to Shorey. Mike was nice enough but red flags went up the last time I was there. I had a miss and Mike quoted me $500 to replace 2 coils. Fine did it and it costs $750. OK its a Mercerdes. But he tells me that the valve cover gasket is badly leaking and should be replaced ASAP, and since the other one is starting to leak he would do both to the tune of $1,500. Mike wanted me in ASAP for my protection, but I was going on vacation and had to put it off. That gave me time to think. I park my car in the same place day and night and no oil? No smoking? Nothing to lead me to think there was a problem. Since I got back from vacation there has been many phone calls and email wanting me to schedule the work. Well I scheduled all right, at another garage where they added dye to my oil and had me drive it for a few days. Then I went back and with no surprise there was no oil leak, no dye. There was oil slick around the fill cap, and a small, I mean small, puddle on the manifold on one side and NOTHING on the other.. The other garage told me that he would let it go until there is a real problem, this is nothing. I asked them if they needed to be replaced how much would they charge me, $700 I just had to laugh. I spent $65 and saved $1,435. I will be taking my car to that other garage from now on.

Saved in Topeka by Shorey Automotive and Mike! Nobody ever wants to breakdown anywhere, let alone 100 miles from home, but that was the situation my wife and I found ourselves in the last SUNDAY in April. We had just finished attending Mass when our van wouldnt start. We got it jumped, but only was able to travel 100 yards before it started making funny noises and quit running. However, God was with us---as He always is. The first person I called after finding his number on my smartphone was Mike. As fate (read God) would have it he was headed to his shop to do a quick errand when he answered my call. He told me he didnt have anything going on that afternoon and he would help a brother out and boy did he! Mike arranged a tow to Shorey, diagnosed the problem as a bad alternator, got one delivered (along with a belt) from ORiellys, got both expertly installed and had us headed down the road. From the time I called him to the time we pulled out of the shop was under three hours and a good amount of that time was waiting for and getting towed. His fee was fair, his work was outstanding and his kind and helpful attitude was tremendous. I cant say enough good things about Mike and Shorey Automotive---except to add that while we were there my wife needed to use the facilities and reports that it was very clean. Amazing for an auto repair shop.

Went in late July for a routine check-up, 600 $. (At the time was coaxed into believing that is normal....) Went in early October, was having problems starting. No other significant problems, just didnt start one day so I asked them to check that out. Started up and drove down there following morning- told me i needed a new transmission....? and that would cost $3600. because, ya know, the TRANSMISSION was the problem.... (Four other professional opinions I have gotten after taking into Shorey Auto, not ONE transmission problem... even went to a transmission specialist to ask why I would need a new one and what was wrong with mine. he laughed at me.) It ended up being the ECM computer, about 300 $ fix and now runs amazing, no problems! (never once had any complaints about my transmission slipping or anything of that nonsense, in-fact its smooth as a butterfly, but it can sting like a bee!) Save yourself THOUSANDS before you try to get conned by this place!!!!! Absolutely ridiculous-- all they want is your money, they will try to be your friends but when they cant even explain why it needs 3600 dollars of work for a completely unrelated issue, would you trust Mike? CAUTION:PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

I have had horrible service from this shop. We used this shop based on the recommendations from a local car dealer. Two different cars have been taken to this shop with minor issues. The first was an antifreeze leak and the second was a check engine light. Both vehicles ran fine when we took them in. When I got the vehicles back they ran horribly and both were taken back five or six times. Each time more parts were thrown at the vehicles, I was charged more fees and still the new issue remained. In both cases I had to take the vehicles to another shop and they were able to quickly define and fix the issue. In one case the issue was one of the parts that this shop was to have changed and charged us for. These again were issues that did not exist prior to going to this shop. We also had very questionable issues with yet a third vehicle. My family will not return nor will we recommend this shop. UPDATE: Shorey refunded for both the parts and labor on my unsatisfied repairs so I am upgrading this report from 1 star to 3. Thank you Mike for doing this for me. This does show some integrity.

WOW is all I can say about Mike Luellen and his staff @ Shorey Automotive. Back in May 2014 we had work done on our Dodge truck and the service was great and couldnt have asked for any better of service then. My husband passed away a few months ago and I was having some issues with the truck so I called Mike and he told me to bring it in so he could look at it. I took the truck in that day and Mike looked at it and told me not to drive it just leave it there and they would get it in that day and work on it. I was from out of town and Mike gave me a car to drive plus cash to fill the car up with gas. When I went back the next day to pick up the truck Mike told me there was no charge and that he was going to warranty the work even tho the warranty had ran out. I can not say enough about Mike and his staff they are wonderful, treat you with respect, very professional, trustworthy and stand behind their work. Its nice to have GREAT friends like Mike. Again thanks for being there for me!!!!!

My family and I recently moved to the Topeka area from out of state. It is always hard to find a doctor, mechanic, and dentist you can trust. I feel very thankful to have found Shorey Automotive. Mike is a very honest mechanic/businessman. He has a very skilled staff of knowledgeable mechanics who know how to work on everything. In the past, I have always had my vehicle serviced only at the Lexus dealership. However, I felt like I was always leaving with more work then was necessary. I certainly believe in preventative maintenance and so does Mike, but he will never have you do something on your vehicle that would be considered unnecessary. Shorey Automotive has gone way out of their way to take care of me and my familys vehicles and to make sure we are in great mechanical shape! In my opinion, you are not likely to find a better mechanic throughout the country that is as honest, reasonable, and as knowledgeable as Shorey automotive. Thank you Shorey Automotive!
