Its 04/29/11 and I just checked online rates for Extra Space Storage at Wisteria Dr in Germantown for a 5X10 and they are: Web Rate:Non-Climate controlled Inside 1st Floor $79.00 & Climate Controlled - Inside, 1st Floor Web Rate: $99.00. Very similar to the rate I got when I signed up 6 months ago. Although within 5 months ESS raised my rate from $79 to $89, which is 12.66% increase within 5 months. The notice says, "From time to time, we find it necessary to make an adjustment to your rental rate in order to keep up with the rising costs associated with providing top-notch service and a clean, secure facility." Really?! 12.66% worth of additional costs per month after 5 months at a rate that you are still offering to new customers... while the economy continues to falter?! Shocking?! Now this is my first time renting a storage unit, so my experience with this is limited. Generally, it seems safe and clean... it is dusty and damp, but I expect that from this type of facility. One of the entry gates has been broken since the beginning of March 2011, making access to my particular unit a little more difficult. I work with a male, who has had a larger unit at this facility for over a year, who highly recommended this facility and who also has never been hit with a rate increase. When I called to ask for a rate reduction. The person said, "Its standard practice for us to raise our rates after 5/6 months... Every other storage facility operates in this way". Not many businesses can take advantage of their customers the way a storage place can, because they know most of the people using their facility are in a bind. I wouldnt rent here again based on the staffs comment alone.

Not sure about the other reviews but I had no complaints at all here.  I am involved in the consolidation and shipping of things overseas. I love renting from this place and will always refer my clients here to rent. Foremost reason is because this place smells clean - They definitely keep it clean and you can tell by walking around or looking inside the units during the tours.  The staff I dealt with are nice guys - they didnt hassle me at all, they were helpful and took the time with me whenever I go to make sure I am a happy tenant. And the office staff is wonderful. The security codes, camera, proximity lights and access are peace of mind. Daniel, the manager,I cant say enough about this guy! He is super nice, efficient, and went above and beyond to help me and every clients I have sent to this place. He has been there to make our move be a smooth, painless (and dare I say fun) experience!   If the ratings were 1 to 5 being the highest, this place doesnt deserve to be docked 4.1/2 star but a solid 5 star. I would definitely recommend this storage location.

Buyer beware! I rented a small unit in April, 5 months later in September I received notice of a 30% rent increase. I stopped by the office to express my displeasure. I was promised by an agent in the local office they would ask for a smaller increase. Two days later I was informed by a different agent that the 30% increase remained. When I again expressed dismay at the extreme increase, I was told in no uncertain terms that the rate was competitive, that the market increased that much in those few months. I was also told that it was normal to receive a substantial increase after 5 months. When I asked how long this rate would be in effect, I was told to expect another increase at 9 months. So, unless you wish to move your stuff again after a few short months, plan on exorbitant increases in rent at Extra Space.

I have been renting a space here for a few months now and am very satisfied overall. The prices are very affordable, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the facilities are well maintained and clean, and easily accessible with a large truck. The only negative points are that the after-hours security gate at the building entrance has been broken for a little longer than I would expect) and carts are not readily available in each building (at least not in mine). These two points do not bother me personally (great neighborhood, entrance gate only temporarily broken, facilities and spaces are secure and well lit), so overall I am very pleased and would definitely recommend this facility to friends & family.

In this economy people fall on hard times. We have been unable to pay our bill for some time and our personal items were auctioned off. We dont care about furniture and appliances, but to auction off (or steal) someones personal items such as pictures, mail, etc. is a heartless and cruel act. For all of you current customers, please maintain your bills and I hope you never fall on hard times because all of your memories will be taken away from you and auctioned off to the lowest bidder. We have lost memories that we will never be able to share with our children. There has to be a better way to deal with lack (or delay) of payment. Heartless practice. I wish I could give them less than one star.

I have been storing my extra luggage at ESS for well over a year and I would not go any place else. Danny has had 5 assistants and the transition of people is like it didnt happen because everyone is well-trained and pleasant to deal with. Danny does an awesome job managing ESS in Germantown on Wisteria Drive. Thinks are always under control, and if the slightest unforeseen glitch happens, Danny and his crew are on it! He deserves huge kudos for his service as manager to this facility, and I hope that you will reward him what is just an fair. Either way, he is a faithful worker I am sure, but you dont want to lose him either,

The fast time i got a storage here,i have never looked back & i had to ask for another storage space,because of great management team here at Extra Space Storage of Wisteria Dr, Germantown,MD. The cleanness is the best,they have Lots of Units which i call paramount, for the growing businesses like mine.There is 24/7 Surveillance security cameras all around & Electrical gates.Drive up access on several units & climate controlled units, are all here. What will i say & not say : : This place at Extra Space,Wisteria Dr, Germantown,MD is the answer to every need of any storage space.

I was there today with my friend. She was getting a unit for herself. The location is great there are 3 gates which makes getting in and out easier with large moving vehicles. The guy that helped us was wonderful. I feel bad I forgot his name. He didnt try to upsell us at all. He offered my friend a very reasonable protection plan but thats it. The process was quick and easy and very affordable. I would say that if this location is convenient for you get a unit there. There are a few other self storage places nearby but the people and facilities were great. Thanks guys!

I was looking for a large storage unit to move my stuff as I was moving and the Manager Danny offered me a great deal!!. Since I needed it only for a month I got the largest unit 12x27 virtually for free and only had to pay admin fee + insurance ($67). I got this deal because of the free 1st month promotion and otherwise the regular price is $520. It was clean and spacious had enough room to stuff my entire old house (2bed+4bath+basement+living rm+office+kitchen+garage+shed....) contents and keep it secure until my new home was ready.
