I have been a customer for Charles over 15+ years before Gary and always did my routine check up, I left town to live in a different state for a few years and came back , relying on a satisfactory job as usual .But quality has changed dramatically!!! I have a Honda Civic simple but old car, it had some break issues and i needed to have the auto specialist take a look, and give me some HONEST advice... So of course i trusted him . Well after waiting an hour during my lunch hour, finally a gentle older man confronted me at the waiting area, and told me there is a problem with a leak and needs to flush it and replace it.He explained it would cost me 600 bucks(without a written statement) and said it might take 3 weeks to even get the part. I was appalled ! I specifically told Gary the owner that i am on a budget and to do whatever it takes to drive safely, for at least 6 month to a year! I was so upset and frustrated . So I decided to take this matter and fix it the next day . I went to a mechanic in Va , it was like 35 min from where I lived, but sure enough it was worth every ounce of gas. I went to Midas, The mechanic there , quote me $ 300 for the break , part change , replaced the shoe from the back wheel and complimentary break fluid change and also they pumped air my tires.. The front desk person gave me a written statement invoice , explaining to me whats needed and what does not . How easy is that??? Perhaps i would have treated better if i had a Lexus or an Infiniti , like the folks from N Bethesda? Actually the Mechanic in Va told me I have a powerful engine and for a Honda Civic I can rely on it for the up coming 10 years if i want. Its a good thing i did not run and get a new car . I just saved the cost of car payments and higher insurance . Bottom line i would not recommend Charles Automotive Private Business .Not to friends nor family!

I have an aging Hyundai Elantra & was worried that I wouldnt be able to afford to keep it running when it was making lots of terrible noises and driving poorly, I knew the brakes were shot but not sure what else and started considering alternatives (zipcar & metro?).... I did some research and discovered Charles Automotive via their excellent reviews on Yelp and took it there, they were able to tell me what needed work (besides the brakes and rotors the axel/CV Boots were damaged with one side totally cracked open and leaking) and triage what needed to be done immediately that I could afford then and there and what could wait a little longer while I got the $ together for the rest and they gave me a very detailed estimate as well as put the car up on a lift so they could show me exactly what the problems were and once I could see them for myself I completely understood.... The first round of repairs got my barely drivable car back on the road purring like a kitten, the 2nd round is now completed & I feel so much more relieved and safer to boot being caught up. I am grateful to Charles Automotive - it is a relief to find honest and skilled mechanics who are glad to explain things to the non-mechanically minded so they can understand and not to try and pad out the repair bill with unnecessary work (like the dealership who insisted I needed a new cabin air filter every time I was there; they made me dread the experience so much I put off work) Now I feel I can get a few more years out of my old car and I will definitely go back to Charles Automotive when it needs more work! The staff are very friendly and glad to help in any way be it a ride to the nearby White Flint Metro or an offer of snacks/coffee/water if you wish to sit in their waiting room. I feel so much better knowing where I can go!

A very professional and friendly mechanic, Gary is just very honest and dedicated. The folks there really seem to know toyotas and their common problems well. I have always been very satisfied with the service, communication, and the level of attention. Because of this, I feel the least I can do is write a review to communicate my experiences there. So here goes: Experience 1: I had a problem that I assumed was a stripped wire in trunk hinge of a 2000 Toyota Camry. After trying a few local shops I called this place. They were very friendly and immediately guessed that it was probably the stripped wire and let me know that I can just bring the car in the next day. They were done quickly and charged me for half-hour worth of work. If you compare the service to the local MIDAS it was much better. The MIDAS folks took two visits and charged me for two hours plus a break-switch replacement before even checking the wire I pointed out to them. Eventually they gave up on the car and told me they could not confirm what the problem was. The other shops in the area did no better, and kept juggling me from appointment to appointment. Experience 2: I had to replace the side view mirrors on my car, so they ordered the parts, and held on to them for over a month due to my busy schedule before installing them. Ultimately, they barely charged me for labor. I cant help but feel grateful that, though it was an inconvenience and not a large job, they were dedicated to it, and were friendly, courteous and honest throughout the process.

I highly recommend Charles Automotive. The folks there are honest, professional, courteous and experts in their field. I have a 1998 Toyota Camry with 266,000+ miles on it. My job requires me to be on the road seeing clients during the week, so I drive it constantly. Im the original owner of this car and the reason it has run so long is because of Charles Automotives exemplery service on my car over the years. Also, their costs are very reasonable. What I appreciate most is that they dont believe in "up selling" you on doing unnecessary repairs or extra add on services like many other places do. They take into account the age and condition of your car when giving you quotes and advice on repairs. They always believe in helping you maintain your car without having to spend a wad. They understand their customers needs and I trust them implicitly. They are definitely customer focused and five star in everything they do. If you are looking for an honest, reasonably priced, customer focused auto repair & service, you have found it at Charles Automotive. - they are THE BEST, period! Mark Sargent, Chevy Chase, MD

I have been using Charles Automotive so long, I simply cannot remember any other auto-shop, much less a shop providing the same level of high quality service! Another local member of my family circle also is a longterm customer here. We trust this outfit! Nowadays when we face a seemingly endless parade of electronic scammers and cheap-rate artists, I prefer to place value upon personal relationships, and I rely on those who have proven their work ethic, integrity and good character. Trust is the vital component for keeping most things in life running nominally and optimally. (Who can trust door-to-door contractors nowadays? I will miss all of the tellers, when the bank branches go completely online.) The crew there has changed very little; the management is consistent and extremely customer-centric. And how often do you receive advice on what you dont need. You need not go anywhere else (except on the weekends!). < Smile>
