Pros: The facility is fairly new and clean and in a convenient location. My unit was clean and the door and lights worked well. The office has a variety of packing and storage materials (boxes, etc) available for purchase. Security is at least as good as any other storage facility with each customer needing to punch in and out of the facility using their own access code. Neutral: The gate locks for the evening at 9pm. There is no access in or out after that time. On one hand, that could be seen as a security feature. On the other, it could be inconvenient if you want to be there late. Also, there is the possibility that you could get locked in if youre not careful. Cons: You have to purchase their lock ($20) because the doors are not compatible with any other lock. Although cheerful and friendly, it annoyed me that the staff member setting up my rental asked me multiple times to do things that would make her look good to her superiors. Specifically, after giving me sales pitches for various packing materials, all of which I declined, she later asked me to buy a box or roll of tape because it would "really help her out" and reminded me that I could return them later if I didnt use them. I declined again, stating that I didnt need them, but she insisted that it didnt matter if I didnt need them because of the return policy. I had to insist a third time that I didnt want to buy anything, especially if I know I dont need it and would then have to bother returning it. She also specifically asked me to provide a review, not because the company appreciates feedback, but because it would make her look good to her boss since these reviews are the only way they have to evaluate employees. After essentially giving me a sales pitch for the review (which I politely nodded through), she picked up the review info card from where I had set it down in front of me and put it in with my lease as if to make sure I wouldnt forget. These are small matters, but they did kind of rub me the wrong way. I also understand that she was just responding to pressures from her superiors. Still, Im the customer. Its not my responsibility to make you look good to your boss. Or perhaps to her boss, be careful that policies to encourage or measure employee performance dont negatively affect customer service. Well theres the review you asked for. Overall, it was a good experience, but I dont think youll mind if I "forget" to mention your name.

As far as the facility goes--its top notch. Clean, safe, hours are nice and even has a restroom open after hours in case the need arises--but thats where the pleasantries stop for us. The customer service at this location was terrible. So bad, that we both left with a bad feeling about the place and were very determined not to be here any longer than we had to--one month and we were out. About a month ago we were a victim of a fire in our apartment building. We came in because we needed a place to start pulling things out of the apt that we thought were salvageable --while we tried to find a new home. We walked in knowing a 10x10 would work for what we needed it for but Jillian insisted that I try to mentally figure out what made it and what didnt so she could tell us what she thought we needed. At this point we didnt know what made it and as Im recalling furniture thats near and dear to me Im getting more and more sad, upset and in tears. We walked in and told her immediately what had happened and making me go thru this was cruel. I asked her once if I really had to do this and she said yes. As I was more in tears over the traumatic event I begged her to let me stop. Jillian was a robot. She acted like she didnt care and justified it by telling me she was just doing her job. It was hands down the worst experience in customer service I have EVER encountered. We felt badgered and even more knocked down than what we had already felt. At one point I had a question about billing and she retorted that she had a spiel and she would get to that but asking her questions and taking her off course would slow the rental process down. I was lectured for asking a question! I literally pulled my baby out of a burning building just the day before and we were treated with the most disrespectful customer service. I am actually still in awe over it even a month later! The straw on the camels back was when we were called ON A SUNDAY about how we needed to make a payment for next month-two days BEFORE our payment was even due! It made us second guess our due date and stress us out even more. Needless to say, we made sure it was empty because we couldnt stand being there any longer. Such a traumatic event should be treated with empathy and understanding and we were not given either. I am sure that Public Storage would not stand behind this behavior--go to a different location maybe, but do not rent a space here. I do plan on writing the company.

On 8/14/13 I stopped in at the Westland location to get some information on renting a unit. I also needed to purchase a lot of packing supplies, but my car only has two seats, so I was going to have to borrow a vehicle and come back another time to get them. Tracey was not only very helpful giving me the information I needed on unit rental, but went above and beyond. She was getting ready to go to lunch, and offered to transport the supplies to my home for me. She even had to unload some of her belongings from her trunk to fit my things in. She was so nice about it assuring me that it was no problem since she was going to lunch anyway. This kind of customer service is a rare thing these days. I was very grateful. This enabled me to start packing sooner. On 8/31/13 I called the 800 number to make arrangements for the end of September. The only unit available meeting my needs was at the Dearborn location. This ended up being a bad experience with terrible customer service!!! On 9/7/13 I went back to Westland for more packing supplies. Tracey was once again very nice and helpful. She had a unit that worked for me, so I made arrangements to store my things at her facility. She is awesome! I would highly recommend this location. Stay away from Dearborn!

This location had the type of unit we needed the day we moved to the area. Requested a move in that day (online) and received a call in about 15 minutes from (I believe) a manager welcoming us, introducing themselves (I forget her name, now) and reviewing general move in procedures. Toward the end, she was a little short when I asked my 2 questions, but I decided to let that go (maybe theyre busy...maybe Im just tired). When I got there, at my move in time, Jill came outside to greet me (a small gesture, but it made me feel welcome). She was a blast to talk to and offered great feedback about whether the unit we requested would be sufficient. She also gave some great tips about the local area, which I appreciated since I pulled into town earlier that day. Jill was also very thorough when explaining costs, payments, etc. She made the experience a great one.
