I pay over 100 dollars a month for the top speed internet. I am supposed to get 100mbps down and 5mbps up. This is a typical test result for me. Download Speed: 1.82 Mbps (0.23 MB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 0.96 Mbps (0.12 MB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 19 ms Jitter: 2 ms I have never seen it any faster than 50, and more than 75 percent of the time the speeds I get are under 5mbps. Charters tech support is useless. "Did you power cycle it?" are you kidding me? Even when I explained to them that I am a computer professional and I have already done everything they could possible ask me to do, I still had to jump through their hoops while their "Tech" who was clearly reading to me out of manual how to reset my internet, and has no real knowledge of networks had me "Power Cycle" and release and renew my DNS , things I had already done. And still, my internet crawls. Even using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for DNS does not fix this problem. This has been going on for over a year now, and they simply will not resolve the issue, and have no explanation for it. Switching to AT and T this week, what a great alternative :( The worst part about all this is, I work from home and I rely on FTP programs a good part of the day.

Truly awful. I just replaced the floors and walls.. The man lied about what he was planning on doing. Drilling a hole into the side of my house, after he had described what he was planning on doing my wife and I were both under the impression he would drill a hole into the inside wall and run it in the wall and underneath the house. Before he did this he made us sign a random drawn up "contract" saying it was okay. NOT what he actually did, but what he described, Well now Ive got a hole thats exposing the outdoors, Ive got a twenty foot cable in the side of my house.. ive had wifi before and the other companies have not done this with this very same home, makes me wonder if they disrespected me and my home because its not a million dollar home, or if they do quick and careless work with every home? Not to mention he left metal wires all over my yard. Either way I would be VERY attentive and very weary if you plan on doing this. I would highly recommend declining service from the man with one ear ring, TELL ME, why a full grown man wont crawl under my house but a 25 year old 100lb female with AT&T will suit up and go under but a grown man from charter wouldnt

Unfortunately no real competitors for home internet w/o land line in the small town I live in. I had *only* internet service from Charter. The speeds were acceptable; up to 15Mbps down, 1Mbps up, but not always that good. Low end could be 4Mbps down. I got a few abuse emails, but I doubt they act upon these with any real efficiency. The monthly charge went up to $60 from my intro rate of around $40 after 6 months. This was expected, and it never changed $.01 after that. However once they failed to email my bill notice, and thus I didnt pay it on time, which resulted in disconnection of service. This was treated as just one of those things and no compensation made for 3 days downtime, plus time spent explaining the situation to their customer service. The original service dude was competent and on time, and helped me bypass the insane coax wiring of this rental property to get signal one spot I wanted the modem. He also showed me how to remove the filter so I could watch basic cable.

Recently installed their internet service at my new place. I told them the apartment complex uses their cable service, and they told me the charge for internet would be $29.99 per month. They called me back a day later to confirm my installation date, and I made sure that the internet would be $29.99. They confirmed it. Got my first bill, and they charged $39.99. I called and asked why they changed it. It turned out to be some misunderstanding and that I had to get another service for the $29.99 internet. I complained that this was unacceptable, because the person who called to confirm my internet installation appointment CONFIRMED that I would be charged $29.99 per month. And the fact that they didnt even call to tell me it was changed to $39.99! The rep I was speaking to came off rude and defensive, saying that they were kind of right to tell me I would be charged $29.99. Just wanted to share my experience dealing with the customer service at Charter. And it aint cute.

My wife relocated in Arden, she had to buy their broadband service to just Skype with me in Tennessee. My wife is not very technical person, so the installer told her a service without advising her what service she was buying. And that service would work for skype. Afterwards, threw in a hidden $20 fee on the first bill. Secondly, internet cuts out randomly for a few minutes to hours. And this happens on a daily to weekly spurs. Ive dealt with Comcast service before, their internet cuts out as well. But never this frequently. As far as product goes, you will get what you want. Fast broadband internet connection for video, games, Netflix in HD. But.... Im writing this review while my internet is cut off and the Charters help line is not accepting my call. Literally, Charters line beeps after the first ring. Sooo....I might be bias right now, but Im starting to look for alternatives. The choice is yours.

Cant stand Charter. Signed up online for a service package that included DVR. When the contractor installed my service, his work order did not show the package that I had purchased. Called Charter and spent 3 hours on the phone. The people I talked to did all that they could but, had no power to fix the issue. I was sent to probably the most condescending manager Ive ever dealt with. She didnt believe that I had purchased that package, based on the price I paid. I had my confirmation email from Charter printed out. She kept asking me to read off different aspects of the email, seemingly in a way to prove that I wasnt being honest about it. She said that there was nothing she could do and that online sales were done through a different company. If its between using Charter and having no cable or internet at all, go with no cable or internet at all. They will systematically raise your rates

I am 62 years old and this company has consistently provided the worse service I have ever experienced. If I never watch TV again it would be too soon it I had to deal with Charter. The Service people never call, they just dont show up. If they DO show up, they bring the wrong parts.. billing arbitrarily just raises rates to super duper high speed premium without ever contacting for approval etc. Then you need to fuss and fume until they finally will credit your account. It is now 630pm and im am STILL waiting to hear from the service man. yes since 8 am this morning and no service man has even phoned to say when he MAY show up. Customer service says they can not tell when he will show up. My guess is.. next life time. Go to DTV or Dish or ATT anywhere but Charter...
