1201 repair seemed a good enough place to drop off my computer for repair, 5 star reviews and maintaining a computer business in southeast portland isnt easy. CCleaner wiped out my graphics drivers and some important windows files, and I needed help reinstalling them. They were friendly and suggested 3-5 days to fix. 5 days and $105 later it was ready to go, which would be fine if that was it, end of story. But it wasnt. The repair technician had carelessly left a small piece of a drive bay loose inside, and I heard it rattling around while carrying my computer back to the car. Small mistake. I went back and it was fixed in minutes, no harm done. Drove 12 miles, then I get home and my entire F: solid state drive with all my games isnt registering. I call the repair shop and they suggest the SATA power cables may have jossled loose while driving, and that theyll fix it within 2 weeks for free. Actually, its more likely that the technician, already shown not to make use of the 5 days and be thorough like the time he was given allowed, also forgot to plug in the drive that he left a piece of RATTLING AROUND INSIDE MY COMPUTER. I drive around with my computer constantly and never have had anything come unplugged, because its not rocket science to protect it with foam and blankets and not crash into anyone. And it gets better! I was also greeted with an ad upon starting my computer, obvious clickbait with large font and exclamation points. And then another. The antivirus software that the technician had left installed on my machine was barraging me with advertisements. Dont install a second antivirus software and let it run at startup with my primary. Thats just asinine. Second, dont clean my computer and then litter everywhere with your unwanted programs. Finally, all my start menu apps I had taken 2 years to arrange the way I wanted were wiped clean and replaced with the standard Store - Settings - Edge. I never want to go back there again. **UPDATE!!** I was contacted by the owners Eddie and Justin. They explained they recently hired new technicians, acknowledging and apologizing for the mistakes that were made. They understood the need to write a poor review based on my experience. Then, they went the extra mile and offered me a full refund to my credit card, which may be received tomorrow. Should this happen I will change my rating to 3 stars for the lengths gone to make it right (the full amount of $105 was refunded to me today, Im pleased to say). This has made a positive impact on my perception of 1201 repair and urges me to believe in their leadership, if not their new hires.

Now that Ive been several times, I would not consider going any place else. I live across the river in Washington but thought Id try them out because of their (deservedly) favorable reviews. My three trips there have been awesome. They were: #1 - Computer wouldnt boot even to bios at home. Brought it in and (of course) it booted perfectly multiple times. They vacuumed the insides, ran diagnostics, and said they couldnt find anything wrong. When I asked the price, they said, "No charge." Whens the last time you heard that. #2 - More boot problems. Brought it in and again, it booted fine.. There is no good way to troubleshoot a problem where there are no symptoms but I figured while the computer was already there, it was time for some hardware upgrades so I left the computer and a proposed upgrade list with them which I figured would come out to about $1000 (CPU, MB, SSD, DVD, memory, labor). They called back and talked through each of the items and when everything was done, I agreed with them that I would be spending a lot of money on a CPU and MB that really didnt upgrade my computer all that much for what I use it for (gaming, where the GPU is king). Essentially, they talked me out of spending half the money I was prepared to drop. Thats amazing, in my book. And by the way, the boot problem? I traced it down to an external hard drive messing with signals to the computer. No way to diagnose that without that drive being brought in with the computer which I didnt do. #3 - During trip #2, they indicated I had a problem with bad sectors on one of the internal drives. I elected to live with it. After getting it home however, I kept losing more sectors. Finally Windows reported that my 1.5TB drive was a 450GB drive. Figured it was time for a new drive. Brought it in at lunch hour and walked out a half hour later. All they billed me for was the hardware, sort of lumping labor in with the previous visit. Im shaking my head at this. Bottom line is this is a terrific place to bring your computer. They arent out after your bucks and suggesting needless services or upgrades, they are extremely friendly and helpful, and they definitely know their stuff (they found a mis-wiring that the computer manufacturer made with my graphics cards). One couldnt ask for a better place to bring your computer. And though they are a 45 minute drive for me, when its time for a replacement computer, this is going to be my first and last stop.

I got a malware virus on my MacBook Proand was looking for a local repair shop to clean it up. I searched on Yelp and saw great reviews for 1201. In addition to the stellar reviews, the shops hours (open until 7 p.m. on weekdays and also open on Saturdays) made it very convenient for me to drop by. Turns out my computers hard drive had also failed. 1201 offered me a variety of replacement options, including a higher capacity solid state drive which they thought would help my computer run better. I went with their recommendation and my MacBook runs great now - very snappy and responsive. The techs installed the newest Apple OS Yosemite as part of the deal and the parts were priced at cost. They were able to save all my files from the old drive and they cleaned out the fan. In short: competitive pricing, excellent service, knowledgeable staff. I could not be more pleased.

I sent the family laptop into their shop after a "mom, I spilled a little water on it" episode. They open it up and called to let me know that they can fix it but it might cost more than the computer is worth. I went to pick it up today and totally expected to pick up a dead laptop AND have to pay to be told its dead. Alas, they did not charge me a dime. All along the way they communicated with me, gave me options and in the end made a recommendation that resulted in them making NO MONEY. Highest form of integrity if you ask me. I wont spend the money to get a water proof computer and I certainly cannot expect accident proof kids (or adults) so 1201 is golden to me!

This place is by far the best place Ive ever been when it comes to computer repair. I build computers for myself and my friends, so I have a lot of experience with the hardware and software, so Im pretty good with desktops and such, but Im terrible with laptops. Anyways, we take this computer down there thats barely running, has viruses, and Ive already given up hope because the firewall was down, McAfee wasnt doing anything, and nothing else would install. They give me a 3-5 day wait on it, and call me in 3 days to come pick it up. I get there and its like a brand new computer. Highly recommend these guys for anything youd need.
