I went in with a troublesome car. This I knew. The battery kept dying on me and I knew it was not anything mechanical, it was electrical. I said that when I dropped it off, but Dave poked around and said it was my starter. He asked permission to look at it for an hour. I said alright, he called back saying the starter needed to get replaced. The part alone is 160 at Oreillys plus he said I should replace a fuse (worth 3.96 at auto store). The shops estimation? A little over 500 dollars. He also said he ran "up and down lombard looking for my fuse, but could not find it." I opted out knowing that was way too high, plus he admitted once that 500 was spent; there may be another issue. I came back for pick up and the car would not even turn on! I had to get a tow truck. He admitted to me that the way the car sounded it "definitley was not the starter".. He would have charged me 500 bucks over the phone to replace a part that was totally fine!? I then spent more money on a tow truck. Got the car to my house and replaced the fuse he claimed he couldnt find anywhere on lombard even though I found the exact piece at kinect auto parts off the same street his shop is on. Car started running once again. I do not know how people say he is honest? He charged me 100 dollars for a diagnostic test and couldnt give me an answer PLUS had no problem almost charging me 500 bucks to fix something he knew was not the problem. He simply was making guesses instead of actually trying to help. I was so courteous, kind and genuinely admitted that I was in a rough spot trying to get this car fixed before I moved to California. I told him I was desperate for help. I wound up having to sell it because I couldnt find an honest mechanic nearly 1000 dollars later. I went here hoping for honesty. An honest man would not charge for doing nothing to solve the problem. Take your car elsewhere.

First time, great! Handled by owner. Second time Henry lied, cheated me & wasted my time. Went for basic oil/filter change with the presumption its closer, quick as Jiffy, and reasonably $. Henry was being a smart ass saying ya we could do an oil change, but we dont have any oil! I thought it was a joke, but being naive about it and since me previous car had a blown head gasket, I wanted it done without driving across town. So I offered to grab some real quick from Autozone--he reluctantly agreed. So I did & left for a lil bit, came to pick up my car, was very surprised to see a whole shelf of oil right there! When I pointed it out to Henry, he got all flustered and lied again that it was some special oil for something else! WTF...Then, he then charged me way too much! More than Jiffy or Oil Can Henrys, and they provide the oil! WHAT A WASTE me buying oil, getting overcharged, and mainly the big liar HENRY is! If you didnt want to do it! Why didnt you say so?? He lied, gouged, and wasted your customers time! You should be ashamed of yourself!

Brought my car there 0n May 20th for a coolant flush. As expected, I waited for 1 1/2 hours just for the car to cool down. Then the mechanic, Henry, who is starting to get the job done, up and flat disappears. After about 20 minutes I started asking the other employees where Henry is and NOBODY EVEN KNEW !!! Then they called him after 1/2 hour and found he had personal business to take care of and would be back "soon". I waited another 1/2 hour for him and in total disgust, I left. What a waste of over 2 1/2 HOURS. The manager/owner Dave, was WIRED on something because he wouldnt listen to hardly a word I was saying and just kept rambling on and on about the importance of a coolant flush. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL !!!!! I wouldnt let them work on anything I owned !

When you call a shop 5 minutes before they open...and they answer...you know youve found a gem of a shop. They offered to get me in for an oil change immediately, and I really didnt think that would be possible before work on the day I had to head to Seattle. Prompt, professional, and genuine people. I decided to walk with my kids to Columbia park to play, and they said no problem and to take my time. Were so glad to have this resource in North Portland, and theyll continue to have my business. I couldnt be more satisfied with my first visit, thanks! -Ben

I posted a couple of years ago and just want to say that Im still a fan of OTGAS. They continue to meet my expectations and needs with integrity... As I said before, On the Go Auto Services staff are consistent in providing great service at reasonable cost. They listen, ask good questions and take the time to sort out issues. Theyre great at coming back to me with options and making sure I have the information I need, then letting me decide on what action to take - or not - without applying pressure or scare tactics.

As far as friends go, Dave is the best...Hes honest to a fault, wont charge extra for something He learns about, and will never lie to his customers, friends, or family. I know this due to working with/around him...trust is his being...if you care to check him out, you will see for yourself...he wont give you the run around, and if youre not vehicle saavy, he explains in laymans terms as well. Ladies are welcome there as well, and you will get the same treatment everyone else does...Check Them out...

We have taken our cars to On the Go several times for repairs and regular maintenence. We have been very impressed with the service, quality and price. Most recently, one of our cars was making a horrible noise, so we had it towed to On the Go. Dave took a look and found a rock in the brake pad. We offered to pay, but he wouldnt accept it. We really appreciated this and all of the work that On the Go has done in the past. We will continue to take our cars in in the years to come!

As a woman who knows a *fair* bit about cars, its notoriously difficult to find a mechanic that wont oversell or patronize me. I showed up today and was listened to. My problem was fixed within minutes. The entire process was straightforward. No over charging. I cant remember the last time I dealt with a good, honest mechanic. I will be taking my car here for everything from now on. I am very happy to have found my PDX mechanic.

Ive taken three of my cars to Dave at On The Go for two years now, and have been absolutely satisfied. Technically, Dave is a great automotive troubleshooter. His opinions and suggestions have been reasonable, and his prices seem very fair. He has stayed late to work on a car for me. You are not paying for any fancy environment for sure, but Dave is a great mechanic and a trustworthy business owner, and he seems to really care.
