My family has purchased three vehicles from Clare. All three purchases were painless and easy. The sales team is great. Our experience with their service department has been less than satisfactory. We purchased pre-owned vehicles, the first car we couldn’t get ahead: there was always something wrong with it, always needed something—it was lower mileage, economy car that was in great shape, had good ratings for reliability, lower cost of ownership, etc. At one point we were questioned whether or not the vehicle was being properly maintained because we had not been coming to them for regular maintenance, opting to use our own mechanic and only returning to the dealership for major, warranty issues. After a year of constant repairs and problems we wrote the car off as a dud—and negotiated into something else. One of the “rules” being that we had to come to Clare for all maintenance. So far so good on the second car. Our third vehicle from Clare was five years old at the time of purchase, and had about 90K on it. However, the car has great ratings as far as cost of ownership and reliability, and I have some friends that have the same vehicle with many more miles 250k. So the mileage thing wasn’t a concern. It’s very affordable to run, and seemed like an awesome car. 3,000 after purchasing it, it needed new brakes, and after driving it for 4,000 miles it needed a new transmission. I have an extended warranty which is the only thing that has saved me in this situation. Getting a new transmission was a three week ordeal with many false claims that the car was “all fixed” only to drive two minutes down the road and determine that the car was in the same or worse condition. They swear they road tested the car though. Furthermore, I was charged for things that should have been covered under the warranty and this most recent time I had to call Chrysler because they wanted to charge me my warranty’s deductible a third time---even though I had read the warranty paperwork that stated I wouldn’t be charged for the repair of the same issue when multiple repairs are attempted within 30 days. I don’t care much about superficial things, dings and dents and scratches on my car don’t bother me. It’s important to me that the vehicle run. With that said, nothing screams sloppy or rush job when cardboard with dirty, greasy foot prints is left in the passenger side of the vehicle, greasy footprints are found on the driver’s side, and even more exciting greasy foot prints found in the back seat for the customer to find. I would not recommend purchasing a used car from Clare without the extended warranty. I do not recommend using their service department for anything. They give you loaner cars with no fuel in them, they don’t know or understand the warranty programs (warranty was purchased at the dealership by the way), they belittle you when you question them, they don’t apologize for the multiple trips to have the same issue fixed, etc. They had my car this last time for over a week and did nothing to update me on its status/progress when they were expecting the parts to come in, etc.

BEWARE!!! Had my vehicle serviced here before my cross country road trip with my wife and newborn son only to have my car alert me it needs an oil change. When I checked my display it said I was in excess of 9500 miles since an oil change! 50 miles from the nearest gas station, in the desert, with a newborn baby, and no cell service made this extremely nerve racking to say the least! When we finally arrived at the gas station I checked the oil and it was very dirty and well over a quart low. I checked the air filter and it was extremely dirty and in major need of replacement! I contacted the service manager Stephanie Warner to inform her of my concern for what had occurred at her service station. I was met with rudeness, sarcasm, told I was exaggerating the situation, and worst of all met with an extreme lack of knowledge in regards to my vehicle! She informed me that her "service team has no way of knowing if the reset they do on the system in the vehicle after an oil change takes place if the dash light was not on to begin with". In the 2014 Durango there is NO dash light that stays on. There is a screen display that tells you miles since oil change! So if it is reset it would read ZERO! She then told me my air filter wasnt replaced because I asked for an " oil and filter change " and didnt ask for an air filter. Who changes their oil and doesnt change the filter??? Who listens to someone say Im about to drive from RI to CA and doesnt think hmmm maybe I should change the air filter?? Of course I wanted an air filter!!! I had also requested an alignment check and this shops answer was "we drove it around the block and it seems straight"!!! The sad part is there is even more such as Stephanie Warners boss Tom Nasser making it obvious he wasnt listening by offering me another oil change in Newport after me telling him about my move to California! This place is a joke! Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. Your car will thank you!

Clare Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Newport is by far the BEST dealership I have ever worked with. The staff is so helpful, courteous and the best part of it all is their integrity. I was in search of a Jeep Wrangler Arctic Edition vehicle; I search high and low until I received information that Clare Dodge had the vehicle I was looking for. I was a bit skeptical to even call at first due to the fact that I live in New York and the car was in Rhode Island. I didnt want to get the run-around that I got in New York. Many dealerships want you to come and visit them, even if they dont have the vehicle you are looking for, they give you false promises, and say that no matter what it is, they can find the vehicle you are looking for. Which is completely FALSE (for the particular vehicle)! I took a chance and called. I had so many questions and didnt even know where to start. Bob and Sheena were so helpful and patient with me, it honestly felt like I was working with old friends rather than a schemey sale associate. Bob and Sheena went above and beyond my expections. We finalized all the information over the phone and took a drive to pick up my brand new Wrangler. They had all the paperwork ready for me to sign. I think that the whole process took less than 45 mins. Since we didnt expect to be done in such a short amount of time, we had time to sightsee Rhode Island before heading back to New York. I would definitely recommend Clare Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Newport to everyone! My girlfriend is preparing to purchase a vehicle towards the end of the year, we were so happy with their service that once shes ready we will be making another road trip. Getting excellent service such as what we received at Clare Dodge is Priceless!

Here are my tips for consumers: -I would recommend staying away from this place, or at least the service center. -Do NOT get your vehicle service here unless they explain ALL of the upfront charges as well as anything that may be charged along the way. -These guys do not have a good rating for good reason. The sales folks were very pleasant and I have absolutely nothing negative to say about them whatsoever, but the service center does not live up to it’s own name. If how they treated us counts as “service”, I’d rather get shot square in the chest. -Know your rights and obligations as a consumer when dealing with dealers. -Women unless you are very familiar with vehicles and dealing with service shops, don’t go alone. Take someone with you who does so you don’t get screwed over and then be told it’s your fault. Here are my tips for the service center: -Tommy, put on a face that’s anything but pissed off looking and try and listen to what people are telling you. I understand you probably have to deal with a lot of angry or manipulative people, but we certainly aren’t that and you treated us like we were. I couldn’t even suggest to you that the sky is blue without you interrupting me and telling me we are taking advantage of you. Learn better conversation skills, please. -Please make sure that your customers are fully aware of the costs before signing anything and don’t throw a tablet in their face and ask them to sign without questions. -Call customers when their vehicle is ready and do NOT fix anything without authorization. I have a feeling that’s why you guys didn’t give too much of a fight with us because you did something you weren’t supposed to.
