Pros: Newer facility, climate controlled units, reasonably priced Cons: Fine print and hidden fees They served my purposes and both the managers I spoke with were always very friendly and well-meaning. There are a few things I would point out however which will have me looking for a good competitor next year. 1) I spoke with someone before setting up a time to drive over, get my unit, and start moving in. Over the phone I asked if there were any additional monthly charges, or if there were move-in move-out fees. She told me no. Once I had arrived with all my furniture, surprise surprise they offer the "required" storage insurance for a mere $10/month, so I was basically forced to pay this as well. 2) I told them I would need it through the first week of september, but the month-to-month term had me finishing in late-august. "No problem, we can pro-rate it for you once you come back in" he said. I said I could pro-rate it through sept-7 up front if he wanted, but since I may end up moving out as early as the 1st, I could save a little money by waiting to pay the last month until the exact day I moved out. He confirmed several times he could do this for me: "Absolutely we can do that", he added "its not like were going to get rid of your stuff". I wasnt worried about this, I was worried about paying for more time than I needed, and I was clear about that. Turns out their system charges a $25 late-fee if you do this. When paying, their employee insisted his hands were tied and there is no way to overrule the system. 3) As another small annoyance, the gates stop opening at 10pm. I hadnt realized this was for getting out as well! I arrived before 10, put a few more things in storage, and tried to leave just after 10, but the gate no longer opened, even from the inside! It was well after 11:00 by the time I got a call-back from their central office with a universal override code for the gate. I was also a bit dismayed that their override code was a whole 4 numerical digits (even shorter than my already small 6-digit code) and is apparently available to anyone calling to say they need out. So very secure... All of these issues seem rather silly to me, but at the same time it adds up to a crummy experience with ExtraSpace. Ive removed 1 star for each. I still feel their prices were reasonable all charges included, but I cannot stand it when companies try to sneak extra unannounced charges past their customers - especially when I am diligent enough to ask specifically. Just tell me what you plan to charge me, and then charge exactly that please... I dont like ExtraCharges with my ExtraSpace.

After renting three (3) units for nearly one year, the following reasons are why I chose to take my business elsewhere. During my time with Extra Space Storage, theyve been through three (3) managers. I understand that it is necessary sometimes to improve productivity, but this was a bit extreme. I was lied to by each of the managers with regard to cost, policy and/or procedures. During my time with Extra Space Storage, I have been over charged for the services they provided, IE: the three (3) units I rented from them. I gave them notice, in advance, of my intent to vacate. They in turn, charged me the full months rent. When i finished removing my belongings, I stopped by the office to inform them I was totally moved out and make arrangements for reimbursement of rental money and was told by the present manager that they "DONT REIMBURSE MONEY". I then tried to explain that Id already given them notice and that theyd already taken out a full month when they know I wouldnt be there a full month, when the manager became argumentative. I removed myself from the situation before things got out of control, without resolution. Back in February of 2016, I tried to report water damage in 2 of my units. At the time, I had 5 members of my family and 2 professional movers witness the managers response to my claim. I was told, "Oh, its only condensation." One of the professional movers then replied, "If thats condensation, Ill kiss your A*S." I tried to explain, an outdoor unit wouldnt get condensation due to the fact that the temperature is constant from inside the unit to outside the unit. Condensation can only occur when you have a drastic difference in temperature and there is humidity in the air, non of which were present. I received an email asking me "How did we do?" I then filled out a form, explaining the preceding statements, then was told that a supervisor would be contacting me within the next few days. I waited and waited (for over a month) and nobody contacted me. I then filled it out again and waited and waited. This went on over the course of four (4) months and (4) filings, with zero results. Normally, I would not vent my frustrations in an online review, but with regard to this facility and its constant neglect of resolution to these ongoing issues, I feel this warrants reporting these important contractual and monetary issues to future customers. Good luck!

Wow what great service! I had a unit reserved at another large national company initials PS and it was a fiasco. I had just traveled for four days and they had me going back and forth to two locations only to find out that the unit I needed wasnt available even though they said it was and I traveled across town during rush hour. I was so disgusted that I cancelled it and I called Extra Space Storage and spoke to Martha who even though it was 10 minutes before closing she said she would wait for me. She was there and showed me the units she had available, did all the paperwork and never once complained about her job or how she stayed late and you can see she took immense pride in the facility and her job. On the big move in day when my entire household goods made it here the driver needed to access a different gate. It was 8:30 am and the office didnt open until 9:30. Lo and behold who pulls into the parking lot at 8:35? Martha who shows up early to work and she was able to get the gate access for us. I really cant say enough about her! ESS may be priced a little higher than the competition but as the old adage goes "you get what you pay for" ESS customer for life!

We are relocating across country and our moving company threw us a curve ball. The moving company my husbands company hired told us we would have 15 days free storage when the shipment arrived. We based our travel plans on that information. One week after our belongings were packed and gone they called us to let us know that 15 days no longer existed. So, we had to find a storage company to receive our shipment without us being present. My husband called companies and was told yes and then no and yes then no by several storage companies. I called Extra Space Storage and Martha in Salt Lake City, UT was very helpful. We were visiting with family in Alabama when we learned we either had to change our travel plans or find a storage company. Martha arranged for us to meet with Peyton in Auburn, AL about an hour away so we could sign the documents for the storage. Once this was done Martha in Salt Lake called me to finalize the details. I paid for a key over the phone and she will there when our shipment arrives. It was so nice to find a company that was professional and did what they said they would. Highly recommend Extra Space Storage. Thank you!
