I called Shentel for internet service. Initially, I was told that there was no record of my apartment and that they would get back to me. A week later, no one had. I called again and the experience was repeated for 1 more week delay. Finally, a service rep told me there was no problem for a self-install in just two days. When I went to pick up the modem, I paid a $40 deposit. I was then told that a tech had to come out and install a phone jack and that a verbal telephone approval by my landlord was all that was needed. Next, they said they needed written approval. At this point, three weeks had passed since my initial call. When I called my cellular provider to arrange more hotspot gigabytes while I waited, they told me I could have unlimited internet for $25 less than Shentel. Naturally, I cancelled the Shentel order. I returned the modem and was told I would receive my refund by mail shortly. After about two weeks no refund was received. When I called, they said they had no record of my refund but they would check into it. We shall see. It is unfortunate when there is little competition in any one area. Competition improves quality and lowers prices. It Texas, I had four ISP providers to choose from. One was FIOS and it was cheaper than FIOS in Maryland, where their only competition was Comcast. Shentel says their prices are high because of low population density, but South Texas has much lower density and they were about half price. OK, I am tired of ranting. I will update if I receive my refund.

Their internet service is horrible and way over priced! Took them how long to offer faster speeds? To long! Its 2017 ! 25mbps is $100.00 with only 5mbps upload speeds! Ive tested their speeds and they dont even come close to what they say they can do! To upgrade to their 50mbps is $140 and their 101 Mbps is $200 which is nuts! Talk about all the years " you had to pay for a phone line " because their company is behind on time but have all this money ? So I got charged for a phone line I did not need but " I had to have it for internet" highway robbery ! Verizon or any other provider come to Shenandoah county it will be game over for shentel internet services. I would never recommend shentel to anyone. Unless you want to overpay for subpar internet then go ahead #shentelits2017 #nokia#blockbuster
