They promised us service that would shame Verizon, which would not have been a hard task. They lied and they failed. Ive had every worker in our area in my home at least 3 times each. We went through 3 modems which was probably unnecessary. Our neighborhood had internet issues for several months before they figured out what the problems (of which there were many) were and could fix them. "Its one of those as soon as you fix one problem you discover another one kind of thing" I was told. When our internet was working I hit speeds as low as .29Mbps and averaged between .99Mbps and 3Mbps The minimum service they offer is 6Mbps... Ive had 2 DVRs that have both malfunctioned pretty much from the beginning so their cable equipment is no good. We stayed with them because we were moving once our house sold and didnt see the point in switching when we could be moving at any time. A year of constant issues and calling them again and again. They gave a small refund to us. Not sufficient, but we accepted it. Then I quit calling every time I had an issue because I was so sick of it. Which led them to basically say I was at fault for not notifying them of every single issue every time one came up so there was not enough of a record to base another refund on. They promised champagne and delivered cheap wine in a broken box. I wouldnt go through that migraine again even if THEY paid ME.

Speaking only of their internet. Prior to their data cap policy, great company friendly staff and livable service. About 2 years ago in an obvious money grab, Shentel implemented a data cap policy on internet customers. The letter went out to all internet customers that they needed to implement these restrictive caps, but most customers (like 95%) would feel no changes. Low and behold all of their customers that i know have been hit by these excessive penalties. Once the bills started increasing because of these silly data caps, as a customer it gets a bit harder to forgive all of the issues that you previously "lived with". Now the speed drops are more noticeable, the down times seem longer, the customer service seems less knowledgeable, etc.. But Im sure the wise leaders of Shentel took that into consideration before unjustly bumping the monthly fees for their customers utility of the internet. So why doesnt the complainer jsut move on, give someone else their money. Great question and one that I am trying to find a decent answer to. Like a majority of Americans Im stuck in this layer of hell where you only have one provider of a service, so you have to take it.

Overpriced and lousy customer service. Internet is often slow as molasses also. Called them twice because they overcharged me for a converter that I have already turned back in. Both times they were going to research and call me back...guess what....they never did. Tiffany at the Rustburg office was the last person who lied to me about the converter, then when I called her back after 2 weeks and questioned her as to why she hadnt called me back like she said she would do, she copped an attitude. I hung up and called the main office in Edinburg and spoke with a supervisor to get my problem taken care of. To their credit, they took care of the problem immediately. Have had many issues in the past with this company. They have the monopoly and that is why they are like that. If only we had another cable company. Jet Broadband was far superior to Shentel. ***They just dropped 2 channels that I watch almost daily and their monthly service charge still increased around 8% on Jan. 1.*** CROOKS

Shentel is the worst!!! Told us if we got internet with our cable we would get a house phone for free and it would only be $108 a month. We get the bill a week after getting the internet and phone and they charged $175!! Called them and they said it was prorated and would only be $150 after that. Which is still way more than what they had stated before. Called them 3 times to come get their equipment and they still havent showed up to get it. Called them a fourth time and said if they have to come back out they would charge a service fee!!! This is unbelievable!! So now I have to make a trip to their store to return their equipment to avoid the service fee. I have never had so much trouble in my life before!! Also the customer service is HORRIBLE!! They are rude and cut you off and still wont help get things right.

Living near Rustburg, my family has no choice of which provider we have for internet. Its either Shentel or nothing. We moved from Lynchburg where we had Comcast. We were paying $60 a month for 25Mbps with unlimited data. Shentel charges us $99 for 25Mbps and we are limited to 500GB (19 cents per GB). I have four children who watch videos online and download games from Steam. 500GB is barely enough, so we end up paying $10 for additional blocks of 50GB (20 cents per GB). Its that or go up on our package ($150 for 750GB), which isnt worth it since the cost per GB remains roughly the same (20 cents per GB). Yes, you also get a higher speed with the next package, but why do that when itll just chew through more data?

I have been putting this off a while, but it has become too bad to let other unsuspecting customers fall victim to this internet service. I paid more to move to Shentel because of fiber optics. They even laid new cable in my neighborhood so we could have service. I took a survey and told them all this. I may go back to Verizon. But the speed is inconsistent. Every three weeks or so, it slows down and I have to call customer service to have them fix it at a distance. Ill probably find out that they slow down service on purpose to make us use less data. They also announced that usage was not going to be unlimited any more. That has not affected me yet though. Their hold music is terrible by the way.

Shentel is a big bowl of OK like most cable/internet providers. The old owners, however; should have been dragged into the street and shot. Nesbe Cable, as it was, had no money and was just looking to sell out and make a bundle. Mission accomplished. Shentel has spent some serious money on their infrastructure and the quality of their product and service is greatly improved. The prices are still just too high. The $/Mbps is just ridiculous compared to the rest of the developed world. My cousin in Australia gets 80+ Mbps for what I pay for 5. I changed my rating down to 3 stars - I had forgotten that they are now metering. Lets make it a 2.

I hate this service just like everyone else. When we started service, we had a six month period where nothing worked consistently and their service representatives wouldnt get back in contact with us. Then, they changed their prices and data capped the internet. We had to move up to $150.00 a month for 750GB, which is RIDICULOUS! If we could change services, we would but this is it out here. If someone could afford the start up infrastructure costs, they would have a customer in me. I hate Shentel with a blinding hot passion.
