I have been having my cars serviced at Precision Tune, Steilacoom Boulevard, Lakewood, Washington for probably the last fifteen or twenty years, although the current ownership has had the business for perhaps five years. I have no complaints and nothing but praise for these guys. Manh, the front desk person, works on the basis of experience and common sense, and has the ability to acknowledge that he has to think something over before deciding on the approach. He has a very practical knowledge and understanding of cars, which is really surprising considering his fairly young age. I tend to drive older cars that often need fairly minor repairs, but which would be prohibitively expensive if I actually had to purchase the prescribed parts from the dealership and/or even a discounter. When I was a lot younger, I drove some fairly high-priced cars that were more for show than for practicality: 1971 Mercedes 300SEL6.3, Jaguar XK150S, several Lincolns (actually, the Lincolns were reasonably dependable, just gas hogs), and six different Avantis (but not all at the same time). Through the years, I had the cars serviced at a variety of places, as I had not yet discovered Precision Tune. I learned the hard way that many repair people have the ability to keep throwing parts at a problem in hopes that the problem will somehow go away, and doing so without really taking the time to think the situation through. Which brings me to the reality of my current motor pool and back to Manh. Three cases in point: 1. When my dad died, my son inherited dad’s 1997 Plymouth Voyager. After a few years, he passed the car on to me. It was generally a very dependable car, but the miles that my son and I put on the car were starting to show. One day I noticed that the speedometer was not working. I took the car to Manh, thinking that it was probably just a bad cable, only to find out that car speedometers have not had cables for perhaps the last twenty years, that the speedometer is electronic and an inherent part of the center dash unit, that the whole thing is an integrated unit, and that the dealership wanted about $800 for that unit. Manh to the rescue: He pulled the instrument cluster out of the dash, spotted a printed circuit connection that had failed, resoldered it, and put everything back together for less than $50. 2. About two years ago, I bought a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee, low miles, nice condition, but still dating from 1996. Within a few months, the driver’s side power window controls failed. Again, all one unit, and about $350 from the dealership. Manh again managed to resolder a broken connection on a printed circuit board at a cost to me of less than $50, a relatively cheap repair, rather than an expensive replacement. 3. Same car. About a year ago, the ignition switch failed. I called Manh and asked him to arrange for a tow. He told me to wait a few hours until the end of the day, at which time Manh came to the house, hotwired the car and got it over to the shop, thereby saving me a $40 towing bill. I did indeed need a new ignition switch, but at least I did not have to pay a tow bill. I don’t want to leave anyone with the impression that these guys specialize in keeping cars running that are ready for the scrapheap, as I see them working on a variety of cars. The point I want to make is that they are practical and can perform sensible repairs, while at the same time saving money for the customer. I recommend them highly.

The service is professional and friendly, and the work is timely and quality. Mun remembers my name every time I drop my car off for oil changes and assures it will be ready long before my workday is over. Even after other shops have insisted a particular service needs to be completed, Lakewood Precision Tune is willing to look the vehicle over and give an honest assessment, giving fair estimations when work is necessary but never suggesting something that doesnt need to be done. The staff is always helpful and willing to discuss vehicle needs in a way anyone can understand, even breaking down to the most simple of terms when necessary, which Troy in particular does amazingly well. Lakewood Precision Tune is a trustworthy place and working with them is easy. Who doesnt want that when it comes to car care?

Went in for a simple oil change, it was $35 bucks and only took 40min. When I came back the (amazingly nice and helpful) man at the counter told me that: Something was dragging under my car and my air pressure in my tires were a little too low. I was expecting extra charges, or to have to make another appointment... but then he told me that they took care of all of it! For no extra charge! I was over the moon. The process was quick and painless and Im so excited to have found this shop. This place was so helpful and nice. Im going to come back for any of my car needs. Thanks to them though, itll be a while til then! Please come here and give them your business. Shout out to Manh for being professional, helpful, and a really nice guy.

So I have been coming here a while. Former Automotive tech myself but sometimes you just want to be lazy and have someone else do it. Mun and his crew are super knowledgeable and professional. as for you "Ashley Neely" if you went and only pad slapped your rotors, then this "Other shop" did you a huge dis-services. Changing pads without replacing the rotors or resurfacing them (grinding them down if they have not already been done) Hurts both the life of your new pads and actually compromises that safety of your braking system as it may not apply to full pad to the rotor. Again thanks mun for fixing fixing that electrical issue I was having, always nice knowing there a shop with a real Master Tech in it.

I took my van in and asked for "a complete physical". Im taking it to the dealership for a specific repair and I want to avoid having them try to sell me other services. I asked Precision Tune to check everything, including the tires that have been on the van for a while. It needed quite a few smallish repairs which I expected. The tires were fine. I was advised that a leaky gasket can be repaired later. It would have been fairly easy to sell me things I didnt need including a new set of tires. This store NEVER tries to provide bogus services. It is just great to be able to take my cars in with the certainty that Im not going to get ripped off or have unneeded services recommended.

My vehicle had a problem which was derived from another Precision Tune location, so I brought it in to this location (Lakewood, WA). They informed me that the company is franchised, and therefore, they werent obligated to correct the issue. However, they respectfully honored their name and made things right. Furthermore, the rep that I spoke with knew more a code my vehicle was throwing than any other mechanic Ive asked. I was impressed with their knowledge-base in addition to the courteous manner in which my concerns were met. This location is certainly recommended to anyone in need of vehicular repairs, tune-ups, fluid changes/flushes, etc.
