My fiance and I own three 4runners (one 2nd gen and two 3rd gens), two of which we use as daily drivers and one that is a dedicated adventure rig. Having done a frame-off restoration of an FJ40 and worked on 4x4 Toyotas for most of my adult life, I typically do (or at least think I can do) the majority of work on our 4runners myself as a traditional backyard, stubborn, and oftentimes ignorant mechanic. There are, however, multiple issues that one inevitably encounters with 4x4 rigs that can only be fixed by professional, certified mechanics with experiential knowledge and tools that most of us backyarders will only ever dream of having. The guys at Desert Toy Shop have perfectly filled this role for me numerous times. From replacing rear axle seals and bearings to resealing a third member, rebuilding a power steering pump to replacing a speedometer cable; these guys can literally do it all and do it right. Theyve been great at getting my rigs fixed when Im in a pinch and on short notice, and they have never failed to keep me informed of other issues that theyve found that either do or will need fixed soon. Furthermore, their prices are exactly (oftentimes less than) what one should expect to pay for OEM Toyota parts and quality work. Ive owned one of our three 4runners for 12 years now and have had it worked on at various shops across the U.S., including Toyota dealers in Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, Colorado, and Louisiana. After finding Desert Toy Shop, I have never been to another Toyota-specific shop since, and I never plan to have my rigs worked on by anyone other than the guys at Desert Toy Shop in the future. If you own a Toyota, particularly a 4x4 Toyota that you off-road/adventure with, youre simply not getting the best work done on it if youre not taking the rig to Desert Toy. I absolutely cannot recommend this place enough, so do yourself a favor and give these guys the opportunity to work on your Toy!

I have a 2011 Toyota Prius that randomly gave me two errors. Check PCS System and Check Hybrid System. All forms of power was lost. My luck this happened later in the night that I wasnt able to contact any service centers. Desert Toy Shop was not my initiate service mechanic I contacted. But after talking to Mike (Service Mgr / Lead Tech), his knowledge was more reassuring than the previous larger service center. It helped he was also much closer to my location. I was also comforted by all the previous 5 star reviews mentioned for Desert Toy Shop. Mike provided me a diagnoses in just few hours and reassured me with great news that the work required was covered by Toyota itself. As no charge to me for his diagnoses. It turned out to be an inverter. Toyota has a known issue and extended a warranty to 150,000 mi. Thank you Mike for being very helpful and super honest with your approach of business. I will use you again if or when I need your services.

Like many Toyota owners, I take a lot of pride in my Toyota. So when I get it serviced, I only trust it to a shop that shares that pride for Toyota vehicles. Mike and his team at Desert Toy Shop brought my 275k mile 1988 MR2 back to life, ensuring that the proper Toyota parts were used and expertly installed. But more than that, they kept me informed with everything that was going on with the car, and what my options were to address each issue - tailoring the service they could provide to my goals with the car. I know my way around an engine bay, so I can confirm that the work I paid for matched the work performed, and then some. That kind of customer-to-mechanic relationship is very hard to find, but thats the quality you will get at Mikes shop. Fair prices, excellent quality of work, and honesty. If you live in or around Phoenix and own a Toyota - take it to DTS.

Thanks for servicing my Lexus Mike! Serviced all the fluids in my car and even threw in a new air filter for me because it needed one. Came here because Mike believes in using high quality parts (Genuine Toyota) and doing the job once. Would do business with again. UPDATE: I brought my Lexus in again for some repairs and a small mistake was made by the team, resulting in a misdiagnosis of my car. I do not define someone by the mistakes they make (everyone makes mistakes) but how they resolve them, and Mike has bent over backwards to get everything taken care of for me. He has done absolutely everything he could to make things right and now my car is back on the road in tip top shape. I will continue to recommend Desert Toy Shop.

Helpful and not greedy! Desert Toy Shop is the place I took my 2014 Toyota Tacoma to do a 3" lift. Mike helped me pick out a reasonable lift kit on the internet and I ordered it and brought the kit with me and they installed it for a very fair price. Every other shop I visited tried to "up sell" me for thousands more dollars. Desert Toy Shop then aligned the wheels and did it right the first time. I wished I had them install the upsized tires and rims too because Discount Tire on Warner and McClintock totally screwed up that job. Mikes shop would have done a better job with the tire install because they would taken the time to do it right. Ill be bringing my Tacoma back to Desert Toy Shop when needed. Great place.

I had the pleasure to meet Mike Smith last month in the most unfortunate of situations. My husband and I took our Land Cruiser from California to Texas and it developed a coolant leak north of Phoenix. We were fortunate enough to have the cruiser tow to his shop. He is a true professional and was very empathetic with our situation. He had us back on the road in about five hours for a very fair price. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone!! I was passing thru Phoenix on a cross country trip and my Land Cruiser needed the axle resealed and several other items. Mike and Tony were knowledgeable and accommodating to my tight time schedule, especially for such a long repair. They only use Toyota parts which I feel is important. 3000 more miles since i stopped in with no issues. Dont know if I will ever be in Phoenix again but I wouldnt hesitate to stop in again.

What a great find! Mike is very professional and HONEST! Took my second Toyota pickup to him and once again, very impressed. He doesnt try and up sell you like other places, and will give it to you straight on what work needs to be done. Prices are lower than other places Ive priced out and will use this shop from now on.
