Update 8/11/2017: How can I give 6 stars? I received a hand-written note from Layer3 today thanking me for being a customer and it came with a bag of caramel corn! Update after a month or so: Sleep mode is annoying, but I understand this will be addressed in an update. This is definitely no reason to knock off a star. The service is still amazing! Original Writeup: I signed up for Layer3 TV and had it installed a few weeks ago. As far as I know, I am the only person I know that has it. You must be in an eligible market and have the correct ISP in order to get it. Here is my write-up for Layer3 TV after two weeks of use. Pros: 1. Picture Quality - the best I have ever seen. If you think your current quality is great, it isnt compared to this. The H.265 compression makes all the difference in the world. You will see the same quality as you see when you buy a tv and they have the amazing scenes playing. We all buy these amazing televisions and put a horrible signal into them... not anymore! Game changer! 2. Guide - the guide is intuitive. Upon turning on the box, you are presented with a home page that previews, with video, your favorite (I think that is how) channels for easy selection. There is also a quick filtering menus that lets you choose: news, kids, sports, etc... 3. No clutter - for me, 150 music channels, 50 shopping channels, and 50 PPV channels are all useless and are used to bolster the channel count. This has the channels I want and I can find them quickly without the clutter. 4. Account Management - I have two accounts setup: Adults and Kids. When you turn on the box, you must select an account to use; for the adult account, you must have a PIN. The kids account allows for custom content filtering. No matter what TV our kids are watching, the content filtering is present. 5. Installation - you are given two options: 1) have a tech come out for free or 2) have the equipment mailed and DIY. I chose the tech and was given a two hour install window on a Saturday (who does that?!?). The tech was here for about an hour and had all four boxes installed and working. 6. Billing - there is NO contract. Every twelve months, you are given whatever promotions are being offered to new customers at that time. 7. Customer Service - I called today and was speaking with someone in less than a minute. From what I understand, customer service is paramount in their business model. Cons: 1. You must have TWC/Spectrum internet (in the Dallas market) as Layer3 has an infrastructure agreement with them. If you have TWC, no issue here. (about 30 Mbps or so for 4 boxes running) 2. The remote does not have an RF mode. Line-of-sight must be maintained between the remotes and the box. 3. The energy saver "feature" pops-up about every hour or so and you have to press a button to keep the box on. Not really a negative, but an inconvenience. There is not a menu option to change this setting.

I love the monthly rate, the channels I want, the fact Im not under contract, and the extreme helpfulness of the support staff. They deserve a 5+ rating, EXCEPT, I HATE the sleep mode popping up every less than an hour. I dont want it on my tv, but cant disable it. Layer 3 is telling its consumer were too dumb to appropriately and responsibly handle how long we may have our tvs on at a time. I also am having problems with either my box or remote, as the screen will sometimes freeze, fast forward will sometimes jump to the end of the program Im watching mid show, giving me a delete or save option only, the pause button wont always pause for me. These are concerning, but Im thinking these issues can, and will, be worked out. Bottom line: The sleep mode MUST GO!!!!!!!!

good service good price for first 3 months but after that its the same as direct tv 150 a month and the wants too sleep every 45 min even when watching a movie. I removed the premium channels from my package but its still 100 dollars a month for basic and no other basic options my account says 151 channels but that is not what is showing in my channel guide tonight. thats 100 dollars for this service plus my internet service thats 69 a month. i can go back too wired cable and bundle tv and internet for around 80 for both. service is good sometimes they will tell you to buy additional equipment and services if you complain about the sleep mode issue. I will be canceling service.

Sleep mode is terrible and has to go. The sleep mode pops up every 45 minutes or, meaning you have to grab the remote and hit a button to turn it off. Otherwise, the cable will turn off and all you will see is a wallpaper. EVERY 45 minutes!!! Very annoying!! Please allow the user to control this setting. And keep in mind, every little hiccup your internet has, yoou will see it effect this cable. I would give 5 stars, but for these reasons, you only get 4.

When compared to other services they are much the best. Between Comcast / Xfinity and customer no service and satellites losing picture with the hint of a storm coming on, in these areas layer 3 has them beat. Content is good. picture quality is excellent . I have not taken advantage of adding or removing services yet. So far so good.
