I cannot believe anybody who has any experience with Comporium would give this company more than a one or two star rating unless they work for them or are being paid as shills. Notice how the "good" ratings came in the same month. The internet and cable service Comporium over charges for in Transylvania county is as low as gets in terms of quality, reliability and speed yet their prices are off the charts compared to communities where they have to compete. Its obvious that Comporium takes full advantage of their monopoly here because they offer VERY different prices in markets where they have competition. Check out their price plans in other areas. Their plans, pricing and services are difficult to compare because they offer so few details I dont know how anybody would know what they were actually getting but I saw a 300 Mbps fiber optic cable package offered for under $60 a month. In Brevard we pay $74.95 for (up to) 11 Mbps and and rarely ever get it. Why is it legal, let alone fair or honorable, to charge $74.95 for 11 Mbps in a locale that has virtually NO competition then offer speeds of 300 Mbps for under $60 in areas that DO have competition. In another area Comporium offers 60 Mbps fiber optic internet service for $34.95. Why is this not criminal? Why has nobody contacted the FCC, FTC or N.C. Attorney general? Why doesnt the county council stand up for their citizens who are being held hostage or recognize the negative business climate that having a molasses in January internet service run by a robber baron monopoly has on our local economy and business prospects. It seems like highway robbery to me. The barely better than dial up service being sold for fiber optic prices charged elsewhere just adds insult to injury. Why cant WE THE PEOPLE of Brevard have a choice? Why cant we take advantage of companies like Charter who offers 60 Mbps for $39.95, $29.99 if you bundle it with their $29.99 cable TV package and get BOTH for under $60 a month. Xfinity offers 150 Mbps PLUS cable TV for $79.95 a month. If you really want to get steamed check out what Cable One charges for 100 Mbps plus cable TV plus phone service. There is no good reason the hostages of Transylvania county cant have access to other services. Providers share infrastructure to offer their services in cities and towns all over the country,... but not in Transylvania county, home of the last privately owned telephone/ cable company in the country until a few years ago. It would seem like there would be laws prohibiting a single company from monopolizing a utility in an entire county, let alone raping the citizens in the process, or at least regulations that tie pricing to the speed and quality of their product. Has anybody ever looked into these things? Perhaps a class action should be explored. There are so many things wrong with the way Comporium does business it blows my mind that they are getting away with it. I could share personal accounts of our one sided dealings with Comporium since they swooped in to our county but I can sum them all up by saying that we have been forced to pay what we contracted to pay, or face being cut off from the only internet service in the county, while Comporium has provided services well below what they promised while mercilessly and greedily overcharging everybody in the county that has internet or cable TV. This review is public. Anybody that feels the same way has my permission to copy this and share it wherever you like. This injustice effects thousands of people who pay through the nose for a sub standard product and have no choice in the matter. The more people that know, the better. Maybe a hot shot law dog will see it and decide to show Comporium the same measure of consideration that Comporium has shown the people of Transylvania County N.C. and hell bend them over and give them a dose of their own bitter and over priced medicine. Im sure there wouldnt be any problem packing a court room with customers willing to share their experiences.

It is unfortunate that Comporium has a monopoly on internet in the area. While we finally are able to get cable speeds (15mbps to 100mbps) if you live in town, the price is still absurdly high compared to most locations in the country. As my wife is in the process of opening a small business Im finding more reasons to dislike this company. There seems to be no distinction between business size or type when it comes to their service. If you need internet service anywhere other than your home you are going to pay through the nose for it (and it is expensive at home as well). Slow 15mbps cable internet costs $85 a month!! Even when the client wants none of the business "perks" and specifically asks for none of them to be included in order to keep costs manageable. This is such a roadblock to success for small businesses. They need to offer lower cost options...especially when you are a company of 1 person with no employees yet. A decent speed of 60mbps is double that cost. The greed is shameful. This company should know that if they help small business grow, not by handouts but by simply being decent, that everyone wins. Exploring options but Comporium knows they have the market cornered and they take advantage of it.

We are moving residences both of which are comporium serviced. The new residence is a house we are building. We were told that we could only call for a change of service to the new residence after we received a certificate of occupancy. We called the day after receiving that certificate. Then we learned we had a 2 week wait for a connection. The in ground wiring had been done except for the last 20 feet - still dont know why that wasnt completed at the time the workers were here ( btw, our builder had to call for the cabling service 2-3 times before workmen showed up). We explained that there was no phone reception, cell or landline, at our new house and so were being left for 2 weeks with the inability to call 911 if needed. Basically we were told as well as our builder when he called that it was policy that it was a 2 week wait. After trying other sources, we were successful in getting a crew out to finish the cabling and the next day, Charlie, came out to get us up and running. Charlie was great - he called before he came; showed up on time and worked until successfully finished. We appreciate his service but still think it is absurd that a continuing customer should have to wait for 2 weeks for a transfer of services.

Our Business relies completely on internet for sales, presentations, and more. 5 employees running on 1 measly 11 mb/s line doesnt cut it- and we drop calls and presentations all of the time, losing customers daily. When asked to upgrade to something faster, they told us itd be 4-5 weeks, so we waited patiently. Just called them and got the news, we have to wait ANOTHER 4-5 weeks. Even after calculating how much potential money weve lost due to the slow service (8-10k) and bringing it to their attention, they still said there is no way that we can upgrade any faster. Even when were offering to pay them to just upgrade us sooner!! This makes no sense.. shouldnt all of the customers be treated the same, whether its residential or business? We understand that they make more money with residential, and thats why most of us have it at our homes, but to not have it installed when its only 2 blocks away is completely insane and its terrible. Its like the 3 years weve been with them means nothing to them. This is insane, as our houses (2 minutes from downtown/Comporium) just upgraded for free to the 50 mb/s service, yet our office - ONLY 2 BLOCKS FROM COMPORIUM has to wait nearly 10 weeks?
