Id be more willing to side with the lower ratings rather than the higher ones when it comes to this place. Although, I will say "Thief" and "Scam Artist" may be a bit strong to use when describing them. I went in yesterday for an "preferred" oil change because I had a coupon. First, I had to make an appointment several days in advance because I was told the shop was really busy(which I understand and appreciate because I figure if theyre busy, most are probably return customers and have a loyal following; I decided to side with the more positive reviews). Part of the oil change is a 23 point inspection and top off of fluids. After my car was done they didnt go through what had been found on my car(Just nice to know where its at and how it looks even if theres nothing to report) and the end was kind of rushed. So much so that I was left wondering if they even changed my oil. Now, Im pretty sure they did change my oil, but Id say thats about all they did(might have rotated the tires too, but cant tell). I got back to work and checked the oil level(looked decent but a bit on the low side) and my fluid levels. All of my fluids were on the "Min" line, so it was quite apparent they did not top them off. This of course led me to the belief that all they did was the oil change and didnt do any kind of inspection or any of the other points on the "preferred" list. I understand they were busy, but sacrificing one customer for another isnt acceptable to me. Especially if the one sacrificed could be a nice referral. I called today and spoke with the manager who I felt really was trying to do a good job and make things right by offering for me to come down at my convenience and they would top off the fluids and give me a free oil change(jurys still out on whether or not Id come back to take advantage of it). So, bottom line is; if they say they are busy and you get work done by them expect corners to be cut or you may want to verify that the work has been done correctly. If you are going in for an oil change; expect just that. Your oil to be changed and nothing more to be done. If you can live with that kind of experience then this is the place for you. If you cant, then I urge you to go elsewhere.

What do you dislike about Meineke Car Care Center of Portland? Share a tip.I was told by Zain I needed $1,400+ in repairs to my front and rear ends. I said thats to much, and he said I could get 6 months of use out of my rear end currently. My biggest issue was the violent front end shaking when I accelerated and braked. He gave me a $700 estimate to fix that and I said ok. I brought the car in on Sat. 11/20/10, and when I got it back it was worse that when I took it in. First, the front end had no change in the shaking at all. I specifically asked Zain when he gave me the keys is the shaking fixed he said yes. Second, my invoice reflects that 95% or more of the work was done on the rear of the car which I have noticed minimal issues at best. The problem was the front end, and thats what I wanted fixed. Also, now my car makes a horrible noise when I turn left, and it is coming from the right tire. This was never an issue before. Then my car was supposedly aligned, but there is front end issues that havent been addressed so why was it aligned? Now, after the alignment my car pulls dramatically to the right. I took the car to Les Schwab and they did not agree with what Meineke was saying. I called Meineke and "talked" to the manager 5-6 times, and he could have cared less. He blamed me for not getting a strut as the issue for my front end still shaking. I told him I never declined the struts I declined the rear end work which is what they did. Les Schwab says struts are not the reason my front end is shaking.

I took our 2010 Equinox in for a check engine code that pointed to replacing the Vapor Canister Purge solenoid and the Vapor Canister Vent Solenoid. They wanted over $400 for the repair. I thought this was high so declined the repair until my husband and I could do some research. Our research showed: They wanted to charge me $201.22 in parts. It ends up I can purchase these parts at OReillys for $81.98 (In fact, my husband actually bought the very same parts Meineke had ordered through OReilly, when we decided to do the repair. So we know what Meinekes markup was). Then they were going to charge me 1.2 hours labor (this takes at the very most 20 minutes for an experienced mechanic to do). When we declined the repair they charged us $95 for "diagnostics" services. Im not sure what they did for this service but it was probably just checking the diagnostics codes for the check engine. This dishonest behavior is why auto repair shops have such a bad reputation!! They taint all the honest repair shops in the area. We will never do business with Meineke again (after several years of using them in both Boise, Id. and Portland, Or.). We will not even let them change our oil. Now Im looking for an honest repair shop that can be trusted to do the right thing!!

My car died on the freeway and I had it towed to the Meineke on Lombard. $85 diagnostic so they could tell me the harmonic balancer went, and that all in all it was going to cost $2000. I asked for a cost breakdown of the work, which Zane did quickly over the phone, being very vague about details. (For example naming a bunch of parts, but not explaining why they needed to be replaced or quoting their exact price.) My husband asked what the minimum was to get it back on the road and they said $2K. Shady. I had another mechanic go over there to look at it, and Meineke was not happy about that. They wouldnt let him look at the car and said they were going to start charging me a storage fee. I had the car towed to the other mechanics shop and he fixed it in a couple hours for $375. All it needed was the harmonic balancer, which had caused no further damage as Mieneke claimed. Even the belts were fine. No wonder they wouldnt let him have a look! Dont get ripped off by this jacked up shop. Even with a tow, and Mienekes stupid diagnostic fee, I still saved big time by getting my car out of there and to an honest mechanic.

Im just a Assistant Service Manger for a Major dealership here in Portland. I was reading some of this shops reviews, which we often do to keep up with what clients/customers are complaining about. So, in turn make sure our team is informed on common mistakes others are making, to assure we do not duplicate these actions. I came across a review that needed to be cleared up and make clients/ customers understand that: Just because you can get parts more affordable than what shop is charging does NOT mean they are ripping you off!!! Lets make this clear. We are a business. Customers just see mark ups. Think what that mark up comes with. Cost comes with, connivance, expert tech that is educated, warranty, labor, and rent free space to perform duty. Keep in mind if anything goes wrong with service. They perform is all for free. Shocker, even honest shops mark up parts. We maybe all different, nevertheless we have business cost to be at your drive up leisure. Just saying. And, in closing this location review wise, looks good. Hope that cleared some gray areas for you Mrs. Julee Hunt
