In the process of writing reviews for businesses I have used in the past. Ive had numerous poor experiences with the good year / Va tire and auto chains over the span of 8 years (no longer in the immediate area, but felt prompted to right a review following receiving quality service from a small town shop on the other side of the mountain.) As someone with mechanical knowledge, here is my take. The good: Rob is a sales lead at the southern walk branch. He provides knowledgeable pre-diagnoses, and does not try to scam someone into a service they dont need. Conveniently located - Not every job is a bust. The bad (I can go on for days, but Ill keep it as brief as possible): 2010, Ashburn Farm Branch, Formerly Good Year, likely some of the same staff. Failed to diagnose/repair overheating problem on dodge Dakota. If this is too unrelated, discard it, for it was not Va Tire and Auto - Felt it to be worth mentioning. 2015, Va Tire and Auto, Southern Walk, Used wrong oil in dodge cummins - I found out after anonymously calling soon after to inquire if they even had a suitable oil. They gave me options that would "work", but I know enough to know it was improper. 2016, Va Tire and Auto, Southern Walk, Could not remove lug nuts from dodge charger srt8 myself to change a caliper. Mechanics stripped them (aesthetically very noticeable, extraordinarily damaging and displeasing), and the female manager did not even make mention of it - I only learned about this upon picking the car up. The sad thing is, the woman told me that the tire was successfully removed in an earlier conversation, and that the job would soon be completed. I was not charged nor credited for the disaster, and they conceded on the job altogether.... Fortunately, I soon traded the car in after, and to the best of my knowledge they did not notice the damage. Va Tire and Auto got off the hook on this one. 2016, Va Tire and Auto, Southern Walk, Wanted tires rotated a certain way (As part of my free service package for purchasing six brand new tires there). This was after the charger incident. I have a dually pickup, and mentioned a particular way it should be done. Thinking since I let them "off the hook" from the previous disaster, As a proper customer service gesture I figured the manager would of done it my way. Instead, this would of cost "more to have done". I felt she was condescending and very adamant that her way was the right way - I understand in this industry the mechanic is usually right, especially in predominantly white-collar Ashburn, but not in this particular case. 2016, Va Tire and Auto, Ashburn Farm, Met my good friend there to advise her as to what kind of tire she needed after a blow out. We went with the cheapest replacement, in consideration that she would eventually be replacing all four pretty soon. The salesman was very pushy about her replacing her brakes - rotors - pads - flush - the whole 9 yards. He claimed they were medal on medal, and that it was very dangerous. I took the concern seriously and inspected her brakes the next day. No metal on metal, no rotor warp-age - pad was certainly on the low side, but far from an immediate issue. Dishonesty 2017, Va Tire and Auto, Dulles Branch, Bought a new commuting vehicle, and out of convenience thought they could at least do the oil change while I was in the area. They spilled oil on the block which of course led to smoke and a foul smell for the next 200 miles. The sales rep asked me when I paid if I had recently replaced a head cover gasket, because there was oil on the block. HA! Disgusting dishonesty. This was my last straw. So as someone whos turned a few wrenches, SWAY away from this chain whenever possible. Merchants has done some shady work too. If you live in this area, I would highly advice making the short drive to Sterling, and have your vehicle serviced at Lehigh. MUCH more knowledgeable, can take on larger jobs, never had a single issue with them. I feel if more people were mechanically inclined, there would be many, many similar posts here.

(update!!) As promised, I visited Virginia Tire and Auto of Broadlands to see about some new tires for my Mini Cooper. I had done research on the Internet about what tires I wanted, and I presented the representative with my choices. I wasnt pressured too much with upselling--I appreciate it a lot when I go in knowing what I want and expecting to get what I asked for. The power went out during my tire change-out and it was close to the stores closing time. Without flinching they gave me a loaner car so that I could drive home and come back in the morning. They finished my tires and did a check on the alignment--not all shops do this and they should always do this after performing a tire change!! The technician brought the spec sheet out and showed me the readings from the alignment system. I went ahead and had them align my wheels and the car came out absolutely perfect. Everyone was respectful of my time and super informative of what they were doing and spot-on with respect to how long things would take. Even though the power went out they knew what it takes to keep the shop running smoothly and kept all their customers happy. I will continue to visit this shop!! Pleasantly surprised! I arrived at the station. While I was looking at something strange with one of my headlamps, I was met by an associate who actually came out into the cold to greet me. I have never used Virginia Tire and Auto before--I was there initially to get only an emissions inspection. One of my headlights decided to go out that very morning and they were able to also address replacing the plasma headlight bulb. All told, I was only there for about 1 hour--and was offered a ride home by their shuttle service. I decided to stay and watch how they operate; they are like a smooth Swiss watch. People come in, they get estimates, order services, cars are ready, people leave. I am very impressed and will go back to Virginia Tire and Auto when I need new tires in the spring.

Since moving to Brambleton in 2014, this Virginia Tire and Auto location has been our go to for all our car repairs. Seemed like they did great work and where pretty honest in their pricing. Lately though, reps at the front desk have been rude or completely ignored both my wife and I on separate occasions. All that aside though, its the last "repair" I had done that makes me never want to go back there. I brought my car in because my 2 front tires both had slow leaks. The front left tire was the worst of the 2 where i had to refill it every couple of days. I asked if they could patch them and if not I was more than happy to get both tires replaced. Rep called me a few hours later and said that they could patch both tires and I had a bad sensor on the left one. When i came in to pick up my car, one of the reps talked to me about my front wheels being fine but my rear wheels needing to be replaced for it to pass inspection in June. This suggestion seemed really weird to me because I knew that the wear on the rear tires when I bright the vehicle wasnt anywhere near that of the front. I didnt think much of it until a few days later when I noticed that now my rear right tire had almost completely deflated. I filled it up and it followed the same pattern as my front left tire when I brought it in for repair. It would lose air over a few days and Id have to fill it up. There was nothing wrong with my rear wheels when i brought the car in and I have this nagging suspicion that they didnt actually patch my tires or replace the sensor. They basically just rotated them and sent me on my way. Well never go back to this place. I honestly wouldve been happier just replacing both tires and paying a bit more than to leave filing like i got suckered. We had a mechanic in Herndon that we trusted. A little further than wed like to go for car repairs but trust is worth more than convenience.
